Daily Inspiration: Meet Kimara Nicholas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimara Nicholas.

Hi Kimara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to Georgia from New York City in 2015 due to having severe mental depression disorder. Moving was the best decision I made for my children and myself. Living in NYC was literally killing me mentally, physically, and spiritually and I had to do something drastic to save my life. So I packed up my two children and left the home that we knew, our friends and family and uprooted our entire lives and moved to Georgia. It was a huge culture shock but we adjusted with time and patience. I found peace and healing here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Uprooting your family is never a smooth road especially when your children are a pre-teen and a teenager . They don’t want to leave their friends and everything they know. It was hard but we go through it as a family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Owner/Teacher of Picture Perfect Paintings, a paint party event business that specializes in protecting mental health through painting. We believe that healing can be found in creative arts such as music, drawing, and yes painting. At Picture Perfect Paintings, we pride ourselves on ensuring that our events are fun, drama free , relaxing and healing. Each event is filled with music, empowering quotes throughout the event, and self-care tips. These little extras are what sets us apart from other paint party businesses.

I am most proud of our focus on Mental Health Awareness and how we have those paintings year round and not just for a month. Mental Health affects more and more people every day and I feel that we at Picture Perfect Paintings are doing our part to help people cope with mental health.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to those just starting out is don’t over spend. Don’t spend so much of your own money on materials and inventory. Start small. If you can start your business without spending money do that. Don’t put yourself in debt starting your business because that will add to your stress and you will resent your business. Also, reach out to strangers people you don’t know for support. They will support your business faster than friends and family. not saying friends and family won’t but strangers will buy from strangers. I wish I knew both of these things starting out, it would have saved me money and heartache.
