Today we’d like to introduce you to Gino “LePrince” Doorson.
Hi LePrince, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music is all about life and my life Is all about music. I’m an international hard dance artist. I was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and grew up in a musical family. At a young age I started singing in a choir. I loved making music and participated in different youth programs to make traditional Surinamese music. When I saw Michael Jackson perform on stage, I made the conscious decision that I wanted to be an artist. After many years of practice, my first major performance was at the Kwaku Festival in Amsterdam. I went to the Music Academy and started singing reggae music in a band. At some point I left to focus on developing my solo career. and shared the stage with great artists. About ten years ago I got introduced into the electronic scene. I created a new subgenre called ‘Reggatronic’. This is a mixture of reggae, dancehall and electronic sound, such as hardstyle, rave and drum & base.
I came to America at the request of a promoter. Last year I settled down in Atlanta and I really love this city.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been through some though things in life, but I’ve always been the bigger man, I’ve overcome everything. There are always struggles in life, but I’m happy with where I am now. I believe in myself as a religion and I always stay focused.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am first of all a reggatronic artist. As a DJ with vocals, I perform with my solo hard dance act and I am also a singer song writer. Together with my business partner, we have our own soft drink OneLim. It’s on the European market and of course people can buy it online.
What matters most to you? Why?
Put yourself first. Keep those who are real with you around you. In these times it’s difficult to trust people. People are not always who they say who they are. No matter what, always focus on positive things and never worry about what others think of you.
