Today we’d like to introduce you to Leshonda Lewis.
Hi Leshonda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been the model in the family. I was modeling since I was in elementary school… well really for as long as I can remember. It’s just something that I fell into naturally. Outside of modeling, I am a licensed aesthetician and an assistant laser practitioner. I guess you can say they go hand-in-hand when it comes to beauty and the overall maintenance/upkeep of image. Lol. Overall, I’ve fallen in love with everything that goes into being a canvas. You know how people always say, “ you should model” or “you’re so photogenic, you need to be in a magazine,” those were the comments I was getting. So I decided to shoot for the stars.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been the easiest road for me in the slightest.
I’ve struggled finding balance between self expression and fitting into industry norms and expectations. Like why can’t I have ginger hair, tattoos, and still be a dope model? That’s why my style of modeling is very similar to that of a chameleon, showcasing a constantly changing canvas. I can bring any and every look to life! Which is why I don’t want to put myself in a box when it comes to self expression. Even though it seems like I have to fight to show people how great I am when they underestimate me, when they clique up, or when they overlook me.
I have to pave my own path.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Model. A true canvas.
I don’t say it the same way that other creatives might say it. I live and breathe it in the most passionate ways. I consider angles and colors and texture and feelings. I see things from a different perspective. I’m known for that high fashion editorial edge that I bring because I have a certain standard I set for myself regardless of the project or the photographer. I know how to make the audience feel something. That’s a promise.
I’m a canvas.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is traveling with my mother. Now I know that is a broad statement and includes so many moments within itself, but that experience as a whole never leaves my mind. The bond I built over time, every time, with my mother is one of the most cherished things in my life at this point. We have that true unconditional love that has developed, and I wouldn’t trade her or any of those moments for the world.
