Daily Inspiration: Meet MarQ Soul

Today we’d like to introduce you to MarQ Soul.

Hi MarQ, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up just outside Philadelphia, MarQ Soul’s musical foundation was built in the church — behind the keys, on the drums, and lifting his voice in the choir. Music was his outlet, his refuge, and his joy, but never something he imagined would become a career. He left home for Howard University to study finance, joined Omega Psi Phi through the Alpha Chapter, and spent weekends playing at church and performing at local showcases, keeping music close even as he pursued a different path.

After graduating, MarQ stepped fully into the finance world, but life in his twenties brought challenges that felt deeper than circumstance. In prayer, he felt God speak clearly: the turbulence was a sign that he wasn’t living in his purpose. What came next was unmistakable — a vision for Made by Mercy MusiQ and the artist identity of MarQ Soul.

The very next day, he met the first musician who would become part of what grew into The Mercy Band in Washington, D.C. That moment in 2017 marked the true beginning of his musical calling, and he’s been moving with purpose ever since.

When MarQ transitioned to Atlanta in 2021 during the pandemic, he rebuilt his musical community from the ground up. Today, he continues to spread joy, healing, and soulful energy through every performance — carrying the same spirit that shaped him in church, now amplified on stages across the country.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No road worth traveling is smooth. But that’s the beauty.

Funding the endeavor independently is always a challenge. But by grace I keep getting booked so I’m going to keep doing it.
