Daily Inspiration: Meet Rashad Mims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashad Mims.

Hi Rashad, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I relocated to Atlanta Ga, last year to pursue my dreams breaking out into the acting & modeling industry. I’ve been wanting to act since I was 8 years old. But because of my environment and surroundings I didn’t really pursue it or see it ever coming to fruition.

Growing up in a toxic neighborhood it seemed almost impossible to become anything other than what was in front of you. Once I became an adult and was able to take a leap of faith and provide for myself. I didn’t hesitate to pursue my childhood dreams & goals. I still face challenges of elevating myself. Remembering that just because I come from a toxic environment doesn’t mean everyone around me is.

I’ve had to unlearn so many bad habits and small thinking. Especially coming up in Birmingham which is much smaller than Atlanta. It’s hard trying to unlearn the crab in a barrel ways and thinking. And just live and strive for me and not worry about anyone else or their process.

Today I’m on a mission to show the younger generation that’s coming up under me in my family, that they don’t have to think small. They could dream big and it actually come to pass. I strive myself to be that light so that they won’t have to wait until their adults like I did to go after what they want.

Sometimes I feel like I’m still trying to prove myself to the old me. The younger me, the me I wasn’t so proud of. But step by step I’m outgrowing that negative thinking. And I’m living and striving for today’s me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew, it hasn’t been anywhere near smooth. This journey as been incredibly difficult. I still find myself facing struggles today. All the rejections and doors being closed on me has been a tough pill to swallow. But I know with the field I’m in I’m going to hear over 100 No’s before I hear my first yes. I would say that has been the most challenging aspect of this entire journey. I also have myself to blame sometime for my inconsistency with a lot of things. But it’s a learning process. And I’m enjoying the process & experience.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a signed Actor & Model. But I’m mostly known for my social media presence. My content is what gained me most of my popularity. My creative shoots, skits, and videos. It’s what made people want to see more of me. And get to know me. I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I keep my eyes on the prize. I know exactly what I want and my goal is, and I’m not letting anyone or anything distract me from being successful in my career.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The characteristic I feel is most important to my success is, my smile, my confidence, my ability to capture attention without trying too hard. I feel like that’s what made me so successful in what I’m doing. And i take pride in that a lot.
