Today we’d like to introduce you to Reesie Woods.

Reesie Woods

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Singer-songwriter. I had my official start in music, receiving piano lessons when I was 13. Classically trained. When I was younger, I participated in the choir in church; however, I never knew I wanted to take music seriously. However, I always knew that I could sing. I began to attend college pursuing music, auditioning with piano. Piano did not work, and I was also taking voice classes and passed my audition, and I have been singing ever since.

My first major project was released in December 2022, called “EGO OFF. SOUL ON.” I worked on this project for two years, and it was one of the hardest things I ever done. I love this project because it is my bar. The bar I set for myself.

My follow-up from the project is my brand new song, “BLACKBERRY,” which is a beautiful depiction of the black woman. BLACK LOVE. It is my best one yet, and it is a preview of what’s next for me and the era I am in.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been easy. AT ALL. You have doubts that creep in, you discover insecurities, you second-guess yourself a lot. However, my love for it always fuels me. I always felt compelled to always share my perspective. I always want to provide my most authentic self. So, cutting through the noise of inauthenticity can be intimidating.

Early 2023, I was offered my first deal ever. As tempting as it was, and it was the confirmation I needed to keep going. It was not right for me. So I respectfully declined, but I was shook because finally all that hard work was paying off, and when a door closes hella doors do open!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a creative in all aspects! I sing, I write, I ideate, and I heavily consider myself a visionary. From producing my own short films, creative directing, branding, life style content. I am nit the artist. I have my hand in all aspects of artistry that is what sets me apart and keeps me authentic to me.

I sing in a choir, and in this choir, I have been performing with them for about five years now. This had provided experiences like performing in CARNEGIE HALL in NYC.

What I am most proud of is my continuous efforts in working with different artists in the form of songwriting. I find it beneficial and yet fun. My song BLACKBERRY is honestly what I am most proud of. I have never been able to write a song, and every lyric is about my personal experience.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to remain authentic to me and not conform to what people would like for me to be in this industry. I stand on that.

What does success mean to you?
I define success by happiness. Having your own personal goals and growing within those goals. I often feel like true growth happens in the struggle. As cliche as it sounds, consistency is a factor because you are implementing and growing within the knowledge you already have and currently acquiring, and before you know it, you look back and you’re just amazed at your progress.

Knowing that you determine your success is key. No one, or nothing, determines that but you.
