Daily Inspiration: Meet Reuna Oliver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reuna Oliver.

Reuna , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well I’ve always caught on to things pretty quickly as a child. I’ve always been creative. And my love and passion for music has always kept me grounded, for as long as I can remember. As I blossomed into adulthood, I began to turn my hobbies and my passion into a career. Having said that, I own a cleaning service, I own a jewelry line, I have started a clothing brand to help promote my music and I am the farm manager of my family’s produce and fish farm. I used to clean houses with my mom growing up. when she would be in between jobs. That’s how I started my business, I kept running into problems in the work field so I created a job for myself. I hand craft copper jewelry and I also make crystal beaded jewelry as well. This came about once I began my spiritual journey. I became aware of certain crystals you could carry to maintain and protect your energy and I wanted to share that with my community. I would always get asked where do I find my pieces, people would be shocked to find out I designed them myself and on the spot pay me for a custom order. I have been metal smithing for 10 years now and I’ve been running my cleaning service for 10 years as well. While simultaneously chasing my dreams. I’ve built my own stage and I throw my own independent festivals every year. Where other independent artist open up for me for free. Black owned local businesses register as vendors. Each event has been filled with nothing but love. This year I’ll be hosting my 5th one. My stage has been the first and only stage so many young talented artist get to bless. As I continue to move forward I will always use my platform to highlight hard working independent artist such as myself. My clothing brand (Ya Favorite Neighbor apparel) kinda just took off and formed a mind of its own. I am constantly being asked about different looks I put together. In the past I’ve been mistaken as a fashion designer, fast forward years later and I actually am now. And I finally have a physical product to push and promote my music. Each and every year I get better and better. I have my own natural oil fragrance as well. It’s called “Moi” the best unisex fragrance you’ll ever come across

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about my journey has been easy. But I think that’s what makes me appreciate it so much h. Through all the ups and downs I’ve been able to show myself what I was really made of. My faith is stronger than ever. And I know God would not have let me come this far to fail. I would not have been able to travel and see the things I’ve seen and accomplish the things I set out to do just to fail. So no matter what I always know to keep going. I survived a fatal car crash in 2023. I was hit by an asphalt construction truck going over 100 miles per hour. I had to start over right when I felt like I was making progress. Literally lost everything and had to build it back up, disabled and broken. But I’m still here. That’s truly God’s grace being shown over my life. And for that alone, I gotta keep going.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My ability to simply be myself when everybody is trying to fit in is what sets me apart. I let my talent, creativity and hard work speak for themselves. Regardless of what anyone thinks or who shows up, I know where I’m headed. And I’m certain I’m going to make it. I’m most known musically for really being able to rap. I consider myself the last real MC! I am hip hop. Every thing about me. Witty metaphors, crazy bars, and jaw dropping stories over melodic beats is what you can always expect from HoodFairy.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents are my biggest supporters. And my engineer Jeanyus from SpaceTeam Beats. I have friends and family that have been constantly keeping me motivated and focused over the years as well. Lastly, I have to thank Atlanta. The city I am from has shaped and molded me in so many ways. Prepared me for anything. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. My city has shown up for me, encouraged me, purchased tickets to my shows. Buying my clothes, supporting my music. Even supporting me with the family farm. Everything I do my city responds to me in a positive way. Really being from here I know how rare that is, so thank you, Atlanta. I promise to continue to make my community proud.
