Daily Inspiration: Meet Rick Silver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Silver.

Hi Rick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Like many boys who weren’t especially good at sports, I received a magic kit one Christmas, and that’s where it all began. For several years, I performed, not particularly well, at my younger sister’s birthday parties. During my teenage and young adult years, I stepped away from performing, but my interest in magic remained strong. I looked forward to David Copperfield’s television specials every year. Then, when I was 26, someone showed me a trick with a few pennies that seemed to jump from hand to hand, and it reignited my passion for magic.

I joined the Georgia Magic Club, where I served at different times as Club President and webmaster, and I created the organization’s first website. I began performing professionally in 1994 while also maintaining a career in Information Technology. After 20 years of performing, I eventually burned out and put performing behind me. But in 2023, I realized that performing was still what I truly wanted to do. My plan was to create a new show as a Mentalist, retire from IT, and perform full-time. That vision became a reality, and today I am a full-time entertainer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Restarting a career after 10 years is no easy task. I knew I didn’t want to be just another magician, especially with the level of competition in Atlanta. After considerable thought, research, and prayer, I decided to pursue a career as a mentalist—not simply a magician performing mental magic, but someone creating a show with a distinct style, tone, and experience. Based on 125 Google reviews, all of them five stars, I believe I’ve successfully overcome those challenges.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a full-time Mentalist, providing unique entertainment for corporate events and private parties. I am based in Atlanta, but travel with the show within the continental United States. With 125 5-star Google reviews, “Engaging” is a word often mentioned. My show is interactive, family-friendly, and at times, rather humorous. No one gets embarrassed, and everyone has fun. I have performed at birthdays, weddings, staff appreciation events, movie premieres, graduations, and sales meetings.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
While not my favorite, yet related, and quite memorable moment from my childhood was during a performance I put on for my sister. I had a glass of milk that I was supposed to pour into a newspaper cone, which would then be opened over her head, making the milk disappear and leaving her dry. However, some of the milk didn’t disappear and ended up all over her! I ran into the bathroom and, yes, I literally cried over spilled milk. It’s a true story!
