Daily Inspiration: Meet Shequita Matier Banks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shequita Matier Banks.

Hi Shequita, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a creative, influencer, and content entrepreneur for Christ, social media is a platform through which I engage in ministry (TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram). It all began with me creating content for personal expression. Once I truly understood the magnitude of impact that social media has on society, it later transitioned into a means of encouragement and evangelism. God led me to start my first YouTube Channel (Crown Me Quita) in 2020, as a symbolic faith step in embracing my own crown, and to also showcase a fun Christ-centered lifestyle that points people back to Jesus and encourages them to embrace their own crown. Three years later, God instructed me to launch a second YouTube channel (Queen of Her Closet), using fashion as a creative tool to spread the gospel and point people back to Jesus Christ. I initially wrestled with the idea of operating two YouTube channels along with several other social media accounts, but again, I obeyed because I knew if He led me to it, He would guide me through it.

In the process of building my YouTube channels as altars unto the Lord, and growing in my intimacy with Christ, I found Apostle Quan Lanae Green and became a mentee at Kingdom Wealth Ministries. I am certain that God sent her not only as a mentor, but also as a spiritual mother–to nurture what He placed on the inside of me, and a destiny helper–to further develop what He had already begun in me and pull me toward what He wants to do through me. Shortly after, I became a volunteer and as of today, I am a part of the ministry team where I serve the body of Christ and deliver monthly prophetic reports via social media. I have given God rule, reign, and dominion over my life and my social media platforms in order to build His Kingdom. While I’m not sure where He is taking all of this, I have given Him my yes–to be used as a vessel and sent out to do His work. With that being said, I would like people to know and understand that whatever they see unfold in my life, it is all God because I am not self-made. God is doing it, and He alone gets all of the glory!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you are called to do mighty exploits for the kingdom of God, life is never easy because the enemy knows God’s plan and will do anything to keep you from walking in your God-given purpose. Sometimes God has to hide you from what the enemy sends as an attempt to steal your anointing, kill your hope, and destroy your future. Although it’s for your protection, this can feel lonely and it can feel like rejection. So no, it has not always been a smooth ride. However, what the enemy used for evil, God turned it around for my good and His glory every single time. Without the storm, I would have no story, and without the test, I would have no testimony–and it is my story and my testimony that glorifies my Father in Heaven. I can confidently say that everything I have been through (the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between) has molded me into who I am today, and who I am becoming.

Before God released me from being hidden and began to shine a light on who I am, I was in the wilderness where I had to heal from trauma, rejection, and childhood wounds. Where I had to fast, pray, and walk through the process of deliverance. In this place, God purified my heart, refined me, fed me with His word, built my confidence, elevated my mindset and way of thinking, leveled up my prayer life, and increased my faith. In this place, He continued to hide me from that which was sent to destroy me while simultaneously teaching me how to war in the spirit. In this place, He taught me who I am and who I belong to so that my identity would remain secure in Him before He sent the spotlight. In this place, God taught me to not question that He could use me for big things, despite my background and past. In this place, He taught me to embrace my crown and walk in my royal inheritance as a child of the one true King so He could then commission me to influence others to pick up their own crown.

None of it was easy, but it was a necessary part of God’s pruning and refinement process to get me where I am today, and He never left me. In fact, He gave me the strength, tenacity, and courage to do the work–and the work had to be done before He could bring me out of hiding. Additionally, it can also be challenging to give God your yes when what He is asking you to do isn’t easy, when you don’t understand, or when you don’t have all the details and have to take blind steps of obedience. But what I’ve learned is that this is what was required to grow my faith. This is what was required for me to truly understand the character of God and witness Him operate in His other names. For example, I couldn’t trust him as Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides, until I was placed in a position where I had to trust Him to provide. I don’t have to understand what He is doing and how He is going to do it, I just have to trust Him and obey. It is in that trusting where abiding takes place, and when this happens, it gives God freedom to flow through me, and ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I just love to create; I often refer to myself as a creator in love with my maker. I am currently a faith based digital creator/influencer/entrepreneur, using my background in fashion, along with my gifts, talents, and skills to create content for social media that spreads the gospel, glorifies God, and points people back to Jesus Christ. I am also called to author books that will serve as a battle axe in the hand of God, and a weapon of war to win souls for His Kingdom. I will prayerfully release my first book by the end of this year, entitled “Fearless Faith and Blind Obedience.” And this is one of the things I am most proud of, because it took courage to share my personal story in such a way. I am open to whatever opportunities my current endeavors may lead to, as long they align with the will of God and help build His kingdom here on earth.

I would say that I am most known for my love of fashion and taking blind steps of obedience as an act of faith–which led to the name of my first book (Fearless Faith and Blind Obedience), and the phrase I use on my social media platforms (faith, fashion, and fearlessness). I believe God Himself sets me apart from others, as a result of intentionally living a life that is set apart for His glory. My desire to go where He sends me while remaining humbled unto Him, and my desire for His living water to flow from my belly, all magnify His power and attract His glory. I can literally do nothing apart from Him.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
What has worked for me in terms of finding a mentor is prayer and trusting that God can and will lead me to the right mentor, then allowing Him to do so without getting in His way or talking myself out of it. This is how I stumbled upon Apostle Quan Lanae Green of Kingdom Wealth Ministries on YouTube. You will know that your mentor is right for you if they pull the greatness out of you and push you to be the best version of yourself. It should be someone who holds you accountable and who isn’t afraid to say out of love, what could be difficult to receive. It should be someone who successfully does what you aspire to do so that you can glean from their wisdom, knowledge, and success. Being attached to that person should result in your personal growth. It’s okay to keep looking until you find the right fit, but on the contrary, don’t use the excuse of the person not being the right fit to run because they challenge you to do hard things–because you absolutely can do hard things.

When it comes to networking, I would advise others to be aware of the company being kept, because bad company corrupts good character. With that in mind, choose to network with like-minded people who are doing great things, and where possible, who have excelled beyond where you are currently–this will challenge you to grow. It is difficult to be around great people and not level up yourself. Once you have found the right group of people to network with, keep showing up. This may seem like common sense advice, but it’s easy to isolate because isolation can be comfortable. Showing up is what can be hard, so keep showing up. And do more than just show up–do your part and commit to doing the work necessary to grow.
