Dj Kickz on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Dj Kickz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Dj, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, energy is everything ! It’s what connects me to the crowd and keeps the vibe alive. Intelligence and integrity both matter, but if the energy isn’t real, people feel that instantly. I always aim to give 100% energy while keeping it authentic. ENERGY NEVER LIES!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Dj kickz, a DJ, creative director, song writer, clothing brand owner and owner of the new mic drop called “Out The Vault” who’s all about creating experiences that go beyond just playing tracks. My brand is built on pushing underground sounds and mixing culture with music. What makes it special is that it’s not just about the music. It’s about energy, connection, and leaving people with something they’ll remember long after the night ends.

Right now, I’m working on building my mic drop ” Out The Vault” and standing out with any and everything that i do and honestly it feels like the next chapter of my story. At the core, my goal is go beyond the stars !

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
There wasn’t just one person. It was a few people along the way who saw something in me before I was able to recognize it myself. Friends, mentors, and even people in the scene who believed in me and gave me the push to keep going. Their belief helped me see my own potential and step into who I am now forsure.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self Thank You! Thank you for not giving up on you! I’d also tell my younger self to trust the process, keep going and not be so hard on yourself. The doubts, the chaos, the grind.. they’ll all make sense one day. Every setback is part of the journey, and it’s shaping you into the person you’re meant to become. You’re stronger than you realize !

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to think I had to have everything figured out early on that success had a set timeline. Now I realize growth doesn’t work like that. Everyone’s path is different, and sometimes taking the longer route makes you stronger and is better. Another thing I use to believe that asking for help was a weakness. I thought I had to carry everything alone if I wanted to prove myself. Looking back, that was naive. The truth is, letting people in whether friends, mentors, or collaborators has been one of the most important parts of my growth. Strength isn’t about isolation, it’s about connection.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think people might misunderstand my legacy as being just about being a DJ. What they won’t always see is the struggle it took to get here. The doubts, the grind, and the sacrifices behind the scenes at the same time, I hope they understand it was never only about me. My legacy is about the energy, my family, the community and the spaces we created together. If people remember that I gave everything I had to connect and build something bigger than myself, then I’ll be at peace with however they see it.
