Exploring Life & Business with Ashley Jeter of All Things STEM With Ashley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Jeter.

Ashley Jeter

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for STEM began in the 6th grade when my parents enrolled me in an after-school STEM program that met once a month. At the end of the program, we visited Georgia Tech, where I attended an event similar to a Society of Women Engineers (SWE) career fair. Seeing women who looked like me thriving in STEM was truly inspiring and sparked my curiosity about engineering. Soon after, my parents enrolled me in Georgia’s first STEM academy, where my interest continued to grow. During my sophomore year, Professor Johnson assigned a project exploring the many fields of engineering, which opened my eyes to the possibilities within STEM. Initially, I wanted to become a hardware engineer designing cellphones and laptops, but after learning about Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, I was drawn to its versatility. This field offers endless opportunities across industries, from aerospace and automotive to medical devices, prosthetics, and even packaging. After graduating high school, I attended The University of Alabama, where I studied Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science. During my collegiate years, I had internships at Deloitte and NASA. NASA was my first experience in the Aerospace industry and I fell in love with it. Ever since graduating college, I have worked for a top aerospace and defense company. Currently, I am an engineer, moderator, conference speaker, mentor, panelist, and career coach.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey to where I am today has not always been filled with sunshine and clear skies. In high school, I had two professors tell me that I would never be successful as an engineer, and they consistently worked to alienate and discourage me. I faced bias, microaggressions, and countless moments that tested my confidence and resilience.

As I continued my journey into higher education, those challenges persisted. As a double minority in STEM, I often experienced exclusion throughout my collegiate career. My Metallurgical Engineering program was very small, which meant I attended nearly every class with the same group of students, making it difficult to escape the prejudice and bias I encountered. Despite the uphill battle, I was fortunate to have an incredible support system of family, friends, and mentors who continually reminded me of my worth and potential.

The adversity I faced throughout high school, college, and beyond ultimately shaped me into the person I am today. Those experiences taught me how to advocate for myself, persevere through uncomfortable spaces, and remain focused on my goals. Most importantly, I learned not to internalize the negativity of others and to recognize that their limitations and biases did not define my future.

All of my experiences have helped me grow and I use my experiences and lessons that I learned through adversity to make the path a more positive experience for the next generation of STEM leaders.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about All Things STEM With Ashley?
All Things STEM With Ashley launched in January 2025.

I am passionate about building a community and platform that empowers minorities in STEM. As a double minority in this field, I understand the challenges of navigating a career without guidance or representation. That’s why I’m committed to creating a safe and supportive space where individuals can learn how to successfully grow and thrive in their STEM journeys. Through my platform, I aim to provide exposure, education, and empowerment, helping others explore the many paths within STEM, learn how to pivot their careers, and embrace continuous professional development. I believe exposure is the key to opportunity; people can’t aspire to be what they don’t know exists. My mission is also to bridge the gap between college and career, equipping the next generation with the tools, resources, and mentorship I wish I had early on. I want every emerging leader to know that they belong in STEM, and that they are more than capable of achieving greatness.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next five to ten years, I believe the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) industry will continue to grow, evolve, and create groundbreaking opportunities that will shape the future of our world. As innovation accelerates across industries, it is more important than ever to ensure that diverse voices and perspectives are represented within STEM spaces.

I am especially excited about continuing to grow All Things STEM With Ashley as a platform dedicated to empowering and creating a pipeline of success for minorities in STEM.
