Exploring Life & Business with Deara Mckoy of The Hair Plug

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deara Mckoy.

Hi Deara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve worked since I was 14 years old up until I turned 17. I quit my last job at age 17 I was working at the Boston market for a while, pulling doubles while also in high school for me it was hard because I never was into school I wanted money so my grades were slipping but I had my mom in my ear about graduation. I made about $10 an hour at Boston market. Not much at all. My checks would be about $450-500 even with doubles.. which wasn’t much… I finally got tired and saved up 2.5K and invested into hair extensions. I quit my job immediately just knowing that it was going to work for me. I prayed on it & I had faith. I am now 20, I’ve never worked again & I’m now six figures! Thank God!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, it has been smooth. But, I also have challenges entrepreneurship has ups and downs. My biggest struggle has sometimes been myself at one point I got comfortable when I know it’s was more I could be doing. Another struggle have been disputed. Sometimes I deal with shipping delays it’s a few things that sometimes get in the way! But nothing I can’t get through!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Hair Plug LLC?
My hairline was started in 2018. We supply nothing but Raw luxury hair extensions. I’m known to offer some of the best quality hair in Baltimore! My hair brand stands out from others because I’ve built my brand up myself from day one and my customers had the chance of watching me grow. They’ve watched me test every bit of hair before supplying it. I am also the first person in my city to even sell Raw Vietnamese and Cambodian Hair before I started selling it was only raw Indian & Brazilian hair being sold in Baltimore. I am most proud of my quality and my customer service it’s not too many young people with the professionalism skills that I have or that even have knowledge on things that they sell.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that my city supports me! I dislike how negative my city can be, people truly don’t believe in people making a way for themselves they always think it’s some type of gimmick or scam involved.
