Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kiana Dancie.
Hi Dr. Kiana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started in entertainment, but it was always rooted in storytelling. I began as a stand-up comedian, using humor as both a creative outlet and a survival skill. Laughter became my language early on, not just to entertain, but to process life. Over time, that skill opened doors into television, film, and live stages across the country. From comedy clubs to corporate rooms, I learned how to read a room, shift energy, and connect with people quickly and authentically.
Behind the scenes, though, I was carrying a lot. Like many high-performing women, I was succeeding publicly while privately managing personal pain. That disconnect became the turning point. I realized humor wasn’t just something I did, it was something that healed me. That insight led me to authorship and speaking. I wrote my first book to put language to experiences people rarely feel permission to talk about, and I began speaking to help others release what they’ve been silently carrying. What started as comedy evolved into a mission.
Today, I stand at the intersection of laughter and leadership. As an author, I create tools that help people process emotional weight. As a speaker, I work with audiences ranging from universities to global conferences, helping them move from burnout to breakthrough using humor, honesty, and practical frameworks. As a coach, I partner with high-performing leaders to release the emotional patterns and baggage that undermine performance, replacing burnout with clarity, resilience, and sustainable impact. Comedy opened the door, but purpose kept me walking through it. Everything I do now is about transformation, helping people laugh, reflect, and leave lighter than they arrived.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle wasn’t getting opportunities, it was surviving the emotional cost of them. In entertainment and speaking, you’re often celebrated for your output while quietly absorbing rejection, instability, and unrealistic expectations. I experienced career highs that looked impressive on paper alongside personal losses, disappointments, and seasons where momentum slowed without warning. That whiplash forces you to either harden or heal.
Another challenge was identity. When you’re multi-hyphenate, people want to put you in a single box. Comedian or speaker. Entertainer or thought leader. I had to stop waiting for permission to be all of who I am. The moment I embraced the overlap instead of apologizing for it, everything became more aligned and sustainable.
There were also financial and faith-testing seasons. In purpose-driven work, especially when you’re building something new, income doesn’t always match impact right away. I had to learn how to bet on myself, invest strategically, and trust God in the gaps while still operating with discipline and professionalism.
The struggles shaped my voice. They forced me to build resilience, boundaries, and clarity. What once felt like setbacks became the very material that now fuels my writing, my comedy, and my message. I didn’t take the scenic route, but I took the necessary one.
We’ve been impressed with Laugh Therapy Worldwide, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Laugh Therapy Worldwide is a mental wellness and performance brand built on a simple but powerful idea: laughter is not a distraction from healing, it’s a doorway to it.
At its core, Laugh Therapy is where laughter meets healing. It helps people release emotional baggage through intentional humor, storytelling, and practical reflection. We work at the intersection of mental wellness, workplace resilience, and personal development, serving corporations, universities, conferences, and individuals who are burned out, overwhelmed, or simply tired of carrying what they no longer need. Our work is grounded in psychology, emotional intelligence, and lived experience, but delivered in a way that feels human, accessible, and memorable.
We specialize in transformation without heaviness. Many wellness programs talk to people. We move people. Through keynote experiences, workshops, courses, and live activations, we create space for laughter, honesty, and real emotional release. The result is not just inspiration in the room, but measurable shifts in mindset, engagement, and energy after people leave.
What sets Laugh Therapy Worldwide apart is credibility and contrast. The brand is led by a professional comedian who has performed around the world alongside icons such as Dave Chappelle, Katt Williams, Kevin Hart, Lisa Ann Walter, Caroline Rhea, and more, and who is also an author, certified emotional intelligence coach, and global speaker. That rare combination allows us to break down defenses quickly, earn trust faster, and address serious topics without making them feel clinical or uncomfortable. We don’t bypass pain; we help people process it in a way that feels safe and empowering.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is integrity. Laugh Therapy isn’t a trend or a feel-good slogan. It’s a movement built with intention, structure, and standards. From our signature frameworks to our growing digital offerings, everything is designed to help people leave lighter, clearer, and more aligned than when they arrived.
What I want readers to know is this: Laugh Therapy is for people who want real relief, not surface-level motivation. Whether through a keynote, a workshop, a course, or a live comedy experience, the goal is always the same: to help people laugh, release, reset, and rise.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is alignment.
I’m happiest when who I am, what I believe, and what I do for a living are in sync. There was a time when success meant applause, titles, or being booked and busy. Those things are nice, but they’re not sustaining. What truly brings me joy now is knowing that my work creates relief. When someone laughs, and you can literally see the weight lift off their shoulders, that’s happiness to me.
I’m also deeply fulfilled by impact. Hearing someone say, “I didn’t know I needed that until today,” or watching a room shift from guarded to open reminds me that joy isn’t loud, it’s meaningful. Laughter creates access. It opens doors to honesty, healing, and connection, and being able to facilitate that is a privilege I don’t take lightly.
On a personal level, happiness comes from faith, freedom, and community. Trusting God, having the courage to live authentically, and being surrounded by people who see me beyond my titles grounds me. Happiness isn’t the absence of struggle, it’s the presence of purpose. When I’m operating in that space, everything feels lighter, clearer, and exactly where I’m supposed to be.
