Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Klaristenfeld.
Hi Jodi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a preemie parent – my daughter was born at 28 weeks when my seemingly perfect pregnancy took a turn for the worst. The next thing I knew, it was 3 days after my daughter was born and I had no idea what just transpired.
It was as if my husband and I got our medical degrees without having ever applied to school and we became members of the preemie parent club, which we don’t ever remember thinking about joining. I was physically, emotionally and mentally unprepared.
What followed was a journey of self-discovery and renewed purpose.
Through my own personal journey and years of experience in the fields of coaching, mental health and well-being, education, empowerment, and advocacy, I will help you make and sustain choices that align with you and your family’s needs during this most pivotal time in your lives.
It’s possible but not easy.
It’s hard to sometimes see the forest through the trees, especially when you don’t have the right support or a guide holding your hand the whole way. And you have probably tried many things to change the way you feel, whether it is reading articles, scrolling the internet, or asking your friends but yet, you still find the circumstances in your life upsetting and alone.
Just as your baby is cared for by doctors, you will be cared for by a preemie parent who knows exactly what you are going through. Let’s be friends. Let’s be lifelong friends. You are not alone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not been. I have iterated a bit thinking about who I am serving and at what point in their parenthood journey. I also came to realize that there are big barriers to entry when it comes to hospitals and hospital systems. What they don’t realize it that I am helping parents after they leave the NICU and providing a service they don’t provide. On top of that, it took awhile to gain a following and find my voice- to feel like I belonged in the room so-to-speak. I don’t have all the answers and I am not above getting help for myself, my family and for FLRRiSH.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about FLRRiSH?
I support, educate and empower NICU parents during their parenthood journey. I help them stop second guessing every decision and instead guide them into making clear and confident decisions for themselves, their child(ren), and their families. I am known to be very passionate about destigmatizing the difficulties of motherhood and for being real, raw and honest. As a mom to a preemie, I always have my eyes and ears open for way to help my own family and to help others. I am also known for helping parents get out of their own head when it comes to choosing schools for the child(ren), having them advocate for IEPs and always asking for more and I am also a huge advocate in moms trusting their intuition. Just because your child is in the NICU, doesn’t mean you don’t have that motherly instinct and connection. What sets me apart is that I tell it like it is from the parent perspective. Someone who has traveled a very similar path as those that I serve. I bring real life lived experience and expertise which is something a textbook cannot provide. I work in conjunction with many providers. Some of the services I offer are: bundles of tips/tools, 1:1 coaching, group coaching; IEP frameworks and goal setting, and I also help parents find their own village. I am proud to be doing this work and I belive my daughter was born early so that I can help those who travel a similar road after I have. If I can make one mom feel less alone, more supported, less anxious and more confident, then I have done my job.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I am so fortunate to have a great family. One memory I have that pops out is when my cousins would come to visit, Alec, who is a year older than me, would never give me a hug or kiss goodbye. I would chase him around our yard trying to catch him to give him a hug and a kiss. I think that in a nutshell demonstrates that I am a caring, sensitive and deep feeling person. These qualities contribute to the empath and guiding hand I provide my clients today.
