Over the past 11+ years as a Physician Associate working in urgent care, telemedicine, and primary care, I noticed a recurring problem — many patients delayed seeking medical care because of cost, long wait times, lack of insurance, or difficulty accessing a provider quickly. I kept meeting hardworking people who simply needed affordable, straightforward medical care without the complexity and expense of the traditional healthcare system.

That experience inspired me to create Ask My Physician Associate(AskMyPA.ai), a modern telehealth platform focused on making healthcare simple, accessible, and affordable. We built the platform around transparent pricing, convenience, and compassionate care, offering patients fast access to treatment from the comfort of their homes.

What started as an idea to improve access to care has steadily grown into a trusted service helping patients across Georgia with urgent care concerns, virtual visits, and wellness support. Along the way, I’ve combined my clinical background with entrepreneurship, technology, and patient-centered innovation to create a healthcare experience that feels more personal and less intimidating.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most healthcare startups, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was building trust as a newer telehealth platform in a space where patients are often overwhelmed with options and understandably cautious about online healthcare. Early on, a lot of the work involved educating patients that affordable care can still be high-quality, professional, and compassionate.

Another challenge was balancing clinical responsibilities with entrepreneurship. I was still working full-time in urgent care and telemedicine while building Ask My Physician Associate (AskMyPA.ai) from the ground up — handling everything from technology and website development to operations, marketing, compliance, and patient experience. There were many long nights and weekends spent learning aspects of business and digital healthcare that aren’t typically taught in medicine.

Healthcare itself is also a highly regulated industry, so creating a platform that is simple for patients while remaining compliant and clinically responsible required a lot of careful planning and continuous improvement.

Like many entrepreneurs, there were moments of uncertainty, especially in the beginning when growth is slow and you’re investing significant time and energy before seeing momentum. But those challenges also reinforced the mission behind the company. Every positive patient review, repeat visit, or message from someone grateful for affordable access to care reminded me why I started in the first place.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
One of the biggest pieces of advice I would give to anyone starting out is to focus on consistency rather than perfection. A lot of people delay launching or pursuing their ideas because they feel everything has to be perfect first, but in reality, growth usually comes from learning, adapting, and improving along the way.

I also think it’s important to understand that entrepreneurship is often much slower and less glamorous than people expect. There are many behind-the-scenes moments that require patience, discipline, and resilience, especially in the early stages when you may be doing everything yourself. Building something meaningful takes time.

Another lesson I learned is the importance of listening closely to the people you’re serving. In healthcare especially, the best innovations often come directly from recognizing everyday frustrations patients experience and finding practical ways to solve them. Staying connected to the real needs of your audience matters more than chasing trends.

I also wish I had known earlier how valuable relationships and networking would become. Surrounding yourself with supportive mentors, professionals, and like-minded entrepreneurs can save years of trial and error and provide encouragement during difficult periods.

Most importantly, I would tell people not to underestimate the value of starting small. You don’t always need massive funding, a large team, or a perfect roadmap to begin. Many successful businesses start with one simple idea executed consistently over time.
