Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyan Tinsley.
Hi Kenyan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I didn’t start in real estate trying to build houses — I started trying to build a better future.
Like many entrepreneurs, my journey began on the ground level. The start of my real estate investing career dates back to 2009 when my wife and I purchased our first deal. A great deal it was due to the real estate crash of 2008. My initial goal was to begin renovating homes and flip them. I was hands-on from day one — learning construction the hard way, studying how homes are framed, how systems work together, and more importantly, where shortcuts often get taken. I saw early on that a house could look beautiful on the outside and still be poorly built underneath. This valuable lesson was learned from paying major dues, getting behind the walls and under the floors to find a costly surprise that will most definitely kill your budget. That never sat right with me.
As I gained experience, I started ground-up construction division. With every project, my standards increased. I became obsessed with build quality, durability, and thoughtful design — not just what you see, but what you don’t see. Proper structure, clean mechanicals, solid materials, and homes that are built to stand the test of time.
That mindset led to the creation of New Beginning Property Solutions in 2018 — a company built on the belief that a home should be both beautiful and structurally sound. We don’t build fast just to build fast. We plan thoroughly, build intentionally, and take pride in delivering homes that we’d be proud to put our own families in all in a timely manner.
Today, we focus on high-quality residential construction — custom homes, luxury residences, and small-scale (boutique) developments — combining craftsmanship, modern design, and long-term value. Every project represents growth, lessons learned, and the responsibility that comes with building something that will outlive us.
For me, this work isn’t just about construction. It’s about legacy. Every home we build is a reflection of where I started, the standards I refuse to compromise, and the future we’re helping our clients create.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No — it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. And honestly, I wouldn’t trust it if it had been.
Like most real journeys in construction and business, mine came with plenty of challenges. Early on, I faced the realities of tight budgets, inconsistent subcontractors, delayed permits, and the financial pressure that comes with taking full responsibility for projects. There were moments when cash flow was tight, timelines shifted, and lessons came the hard way.
One of the biggest struggles was learning when to say no — to bad deals, rushed projects, or work that didn’t align with our standards. As a licensed and insured contractor, cutting corners was never an option, even when it would have been the easier or more profitable route in the short term. Choosing quality, compliance, and integrity sometimes meant slower growth — but it also meant sleeping at night and protecting our clients.
There were also growing pains in building systems — hiring the right people, vetting partners, managing risk, and learning that leadership in construction isn’t just about building structures, but building trust and accountability across every phase of a project.
Those challenges shaped how we operate today. They forced us to tighten our processes, strengthen our planning, and become more disciplined builders. Every setback refined our approach and reinforced why we do what we do — building homes the right way, even when it’s harder.
Looking back, the struggles weren’t roadblocks — they were the training ground. And they’re the reason we stand confidently behind every home we build today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
New Beginning Property Solutions is a licensed and insured residential construction and development firm built around quality, accountability, and long-term value.
At our core, we design and build high-quality residential homes — including custom single-family residences, luxury homes, and small-scale developments. We also provide pre-construction services that help clients make informed decisions before they ever break ground. That means feasibility analysis, budgeting, planning, and guidance that protects our clients from costly missteps.
What sets us apart is how intentional we are about the process, not just the final product. We’re known for building homes that look beautiful on the surface while being structurally sound, properly engineered, and thoughtfully constructed behind the walls. We don’t believe in shortcuts, rushed timelines, or building to minimum standards. We believe in building homes that hold their value — and their integrity — over time.
Our specialization is in bridging the gap between vision and execution. Many people have ideas or designs, but not a clear path forward. We help translate those ideas into buildable, code-compliant, and financially realistic projects. That clarity upfront is one of the biggest reasons our projects run smoother and our clients feel confident throughout the build.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is our reputation. New Beginning Property Solutions stands for professionalism, transparency, and trust. Being fully licensed and insured isn’t just a requirement for us — it’s a promise of accountability. When our name is on a project, it means the work is being done the right way.
What I want readers to know is this: our homes are not mass-produced. Every project is personal. We build with pride, intention, and respect for the families who will live there and the communities those homes become a part of. New Beginning isn’t just a company name — it’s a reflection of what we help our clients create.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I don’t see myself as a reckless risk-taker, but I do believe in calculated commitment.
One of the biggest risks I ever took came around my fourth project. By that point, the growing pains from the first three projects had taken a real toll. We were learning fast, but those lessons came at a cost — tight margins, unexpected expenses, and being financially upside down in ways that most people never see from the outside.
When that fourth opportunity came along, I made a decision that changed everything. I invested all of my remaining savings. I drained my bank accounts and bet fully on the business — not because it was easy or comfortable, but because I believed in the foundation we had built through experience, hard lessons, and discipline. It wasn’t blind confidence; it was informed belief earned through adversity.
That moment forced a shift in how I approached risk. From then on, every decision became sharper — tighter planning, stronger cost controls, better systems, and absolute clarity around scope and execution. There was no room for error, and that pressure elevated the way we operated.
For me, risk isn’t about chasing upside — it’s about standing behind your convictions when the data, experience, and preparation tell you it’s time. Sometimes that means stepping forward when there’s no safety net, knowing that failure isn’t an option.
That fourth project didn’t just keep the business alive — it refined it. It taught me that meaningful growth often comes when you fully commit, learn fast, and refuse to compromise your standards, even when everything is on the line.
