Hidden Gems: Meet LeNecia Knighton of Boutique Amore

Today we’d like to introduce you to LeNecia Knighton.

Hi LeNecia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Most of my adult life I’ve been passionate about two things – small business ownership and fashion. In 2018, I decided it was finally time to become a business owner. Supporting small businesses has always been at the heart of what I do. Anyone who knows me will tell you that whenever someone asks for a recommendation, I almost always have a small business in mind to refer them to. I firmly believe that small businesses are the backbone of the United States. That belief is one of the reasons I am so passionate about being a small business owner myself.

After spending many years in corporate America, focusing on leadership, operational excellence, and business improvement, I realized I wanted to apply those same skills to building something of my own.

While I love what I do, I also wanted to combine my business expertise with a lifelong passion: fashion. Whether it’s clothing, shoes, or accessories, fashion has always been something I truly enjoy and appreciate.

With that vision in mind, I began researching and evaluating what business ownership could look like for me. After extensive analysis, I decided purchasing an existing business would be the most efficient path forward for me. Rather than building a company from the ground up, acquiring an established business would allow me to leverage my strengths in transformation and improvement while starting with a solid foundation.

So March 2019, I purchased Boutique Amore.

At the time, Boutique Amore operated primarily as a fast-fashion e-commerce business. I saw an opportunity to evolve the brand into something more intentional—a true boutique focused on providing elevated, versatile fashion for today’s modern woman on the go.

The timing proved ideal. As the world shifted during the COVID-19 pandemic, more consumers turned to online shopping, and we were able to meet their needs by offering stylish, affordable pieces that could easily become staples in a modern and elevated capsule wardrobe.

Today, Boutique Amore continues to provide thoughtfully curated fashion for women who want to look polished and confident without sacrificing practicality. We focus on versatile, multi-seasonal pieces that offer lasting value and remain relevant beyond a single trend or season.

As we look to the very near future, we have exciting plans to expand beyond fashion! I’m looking to evolve the brand in new and meaningful ways. As we continue to grow beyond fashion, we’re exploring categories such as body care, skincare, and fragrance—products that complement fashion and help women feel confident and beautiful every day.

We are currently exploring partnering with other small businesses that are looking to introduce their products to new customers and expand their reach. I believe there is tremendous value in working together, and whenever possible, I want to create opportunities for collaboration that benefit everyone involved.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all!
There are challenges at every stage, and each phase brings a different set of obstacles to overcome.

In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges is simply not knowing what you don’t know. Even though I had years of experience managing operations, business ownership is different. As an owner, every decision carries greater responsibility, and while mistakes can be valuable learning opportunities, they can also be costly.

One lesson I learned very early on is that if you don’t know something, find someone who does. Seeking guidance from experienced people and trusted experts has been one of the most valuable tools in my journey. I often say, “don’t call the plumber to fix the car.” He may be an expert, but that’s not his expertise.

Some of the challenges I faced included purchasing inventory that wasn’t necessary, misjudging customer demand, and not fully understanding my ideal customer early on. Like many business owners, I made both financial and emotional mistakes. When you’re the owner, it’s easy to take every setback personally because you’ve invested so much of yourself into the business.

What I’ve learned is that mistakes are part of the process. The key is to learn from them, make adjustments, and keep moving forward. Every challenge provides an opportunity to grow, and every lesson helps you make better decisions tomorrow than you did today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Boutique Amore?
Boutique Amore is more than an online fashion boutique—it’s a brand built on empowerment, confidence, and helping women create elevated wardrobes that fit their everyday lives.

In 2019, I acquired and transformed the business from a fast-fashion e-commerce business into a boutique focused on thoughtfully curated, versatile fashion for today’s woman on the go. Our mission is to provide stylish, affordable pieces that can be worn across multiple seasons and become staples in a woman’s wardrobe rather than items that are only relevant for a single trend.

What sets us apart is our intentional approach to fashion. We believe women deserve clothing that is both beautiful, elevated and practical. Every piece is selected with versatility and wearability in mind, allowing our customers to build a wardrobe that feels elevated without sacrificing value.

One of the things we are most proud of is the evolution of the Boutique Amore brand. What began as a traditional online clothing retailer has grown into a lifestyle-focused business with a vision that extends beyond fashion. As we continue to expand, we are exploring categories such as skincare, body care, fragrance, and other products that complement a your personal style and self-care journey.

Another defining part of our brand is our commitment to supporting other small businesses. We firmly believe that small businesses are the backbone of our communities and economy. Whenever possible, we seek opportunities to collaborate with fellow entrepreneurs, introduce emerging brands to new audiences, and create partnerships that help all of us grow together. Supporting small businesses is not just a business strategy for us—it’s a core value.

At its heart, Boutique Amore is about helping women look and feel their best while building a community that celebrates confidence, entrepreneurship, and meaningful connections. As we continue to grow, our goal remains the same: to provide elevated, accessible fashion and lifestyle products that empower women and support the success of other small businesses along the way.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I have definitely taken major risks throughout my life and career. In fact, one of the biggest risks I ever took was purchasing this business.

Although I’ve built a successful career in corporate America, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset. I’ve never been afraid to step into unfamiliar territory, pursue ambitious goals, or take calculated risks in pursuit of growth. For me, the greatest opportunities often come from having the courage to bet on yourself and embrace what’s possible. I believe in taking calculated risks when I believe the potential reward is worth it.

My perspective on risk is simple: growth rarely happens without it. While not every risk leads to immediate success, every risk creates an opportunity to learn and move forward with greater knowledge and experience.

Purchasing Boutique Amore was certainly my biggest entrepreneurial risk. When you acquire a business, there’s no guarantee that what you’re buying will perform the way you expect. You don’t always know exactly what challenges lie ahead, what changes will be necessary, or how much time, energy, and money it will take to achieve your vision. While the business was established, its future success depended on the decisions I made as its new owner.

Fortunately, my corporate career prepared me well for that challenge. Throughout my career, I’ve consistently embraced opportunities that required me to take risks, solve complex problems, and lead through uncertainty. Those experiences gave me the confidence to trust my instincts and invest in myself.
