Today we’d like to introduce you to Nzinga Shaw.
Nzinga, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Nzinga “Zing” Shaw is the President & CEO of Attack the Glass LLC. ATG was founded in 2019 and is a small organization with a big mission. It aims to serve as the umbrella for amplifying dimensions of diversity across every facet of the human experience. Through educational tools, facilitated trainings, executive coaching, and the identification of unexpected talent, ATG is the connective tissue that helps clients realize their full potential.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Small Size and Newness:
Limited Track Record: As a small organization founded in 2019, ATG might face skepticism regarding its experience and longevity in the consultancy space.
Resource Constraints: Smaller organizations often have limited resources compared to larger, more established consultancies, which can impact their ability to scale operations and manage large projects effectively.
Market Saturation:
Competitive Landscape: The consultancy market, particularly in diversity and inclusion, is highly competitive with many established players. Standing out among numerous firms offering similar services can be challenging.
Differentiation: Clearly defining and communicating what sets ATG apart from other consultancies in terms of unique value propositions and expertise is crucial.
Credibility and Trust:
Building Reputation: Establishing a strong reputation in the industry takes time. Potential clients may initially be cautious about partnering with a relatively new and small firm.
Client Testimonials and Case Studies: Gaining and showcasing successful client testimonials and case studies will be essential to build trust and credibility.
Brand Recognition:
Visibility and Awareness: Increasing brand awareness in a crowded market is a significant challenge. ATG needs to effectively market its services and build a recognizable brand.
Thought Leadership: Positioning ATG as a thought leader through publications, speaking engagements, and media presence will be important for gaining recognition.
Client Acquisition and Retention:
Networking and Relationships: Building a robust network and establishing strong relationships with potential clients is critical. This requires strategic networking and consistent follow-up.
Client Retention: Ensuring high client satisfaction to retain clients and generate repeat business is vital for sustainable growth.
Scalability:
Expanding Offerings: Scaling the consultancy’s offerings and reaching a broader audience without compromising quality can be challenging.
Resource Management: Efficiently managing resources, including talent and finances, to support growth initiatives.
Proving Impact:
Measuring Success: Demonstrating the tangible impact of ATG’s services on clients’ diversity and inclusion efforts can be difficult but is necessary for proving value.
Outcome Tracking: Developing robust mechanisms to track and report outcomes and improvements resulting from ATG’s interventions.
Addressing these challenges will involve strategic planning, targeted marketing, building a strong network, and continuously demonstrating the value and impact of ATG’s services to establish credibility and achieve long-term success.

How do you define success?
Success can be defined in various ways depending on personal values, goals, and perspectives. For me, success encompasses several key elements:
Personal Fulfillment and Growth
Success means achieving a sense of personal fulfillment and continuous growth. This involves setting and reaching personal goals, learning new skills, and expanding one’s horizons. It’s about feeling content and proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished, both personally and professionally.
Positive Impact
Making a positive impact on others and the world around you is a crucial aspect of success. This can be through helping others, contributing to your community, supporting causes you believe in, or creating something that benefits society. Success is about leaving a positive legacy and making the world a better place.
Professional Achievement
In the professional realm, success often involves achieving your career goals, excelling in your field, and being recognized for your contributions. It’s about reaching milestones, whether that’s through promotions, accolades, or completing significant projects. Professional success also includes building meaningful relationships and a solid reputation within your industry.
Work-Life Balance
Balancing professional responsibilities with personal life is a critical component of success. It means finding harmony between work, family, health, and leisure, ensuring that one area does not overshadow the others. Success is maintaining well-being and enjoying life while achieving your career goals.
Integrity and Authenticity
Living with integrity and staying true to yourself is a vital part of success. This involves making ethical choices, being honest, and staying aligned with your values. Authenticity in your actions and decisions fosters trust and respect from others and reinforces self-respect.
Financial Stability
While not the sole indicator, financial stability and security are important aspects of success. It means having the resources to live comfortably, support your loved ones, and pursue your passions without undue stress. Financial success provides the foundation for many other aspects of a fulfilling life.
Resilience and Adaptability
Success also involves the ability to overcome challenges and adapt to changing circumstances. It’s about resilience, perseverance, and the capacity to learn from setbacks. True success is not the absence of failure but the ability to rise and continue moving forward despite it.
Happiness and Well-Being
Ultimately, success is closely tied to overall happiness and well-being. It’s about feeling satisfied and content with your life, enjoying good health, and having positive relationships. Success means leading a life that brings you joy and peace.
In summary, success is a multifaceted concept that goes beyond mere achievements or financial gains. It’s about personal fulfillment, making a positive impact, professional accomplishment, maintaining balance, living with integrity, achieving financial stability, demonstrating resilience, and overall happiness. Each person’s definition of success may vary, reflecting their unique values and aspirations.
