Hidden Gems: Meet Reginald Cummings of Swoops Hoops Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Cummings

Hi Reginald, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my basketball training journey when I saw the lack of fundamentals being taught to our youth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been a struggle. It has been times when I had 20 clients to train and no consistent gym to train in. Then its been days when I have had access to a gym, but my availability was limited. The training market also was becoming saturated with bad trainers who used the game as a hustle and were not passionate about really teaching the game to the youth.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Swoops Hoops foundation is an organization developed to reach our community through basketball. The organization is created with the desire to mentor our youth, strengthen, as well as educate our community. Our organization has been around for almost 5 years but I have been training since 2010. Our organization specializes in basketball, but we also do speed and agility, conditioning, and baseball. We focus on community engagement and creating a platform for young athletes. We stick to training youth with a personalized approach as all players are not created the same and always keeping fundamentals first. Our staff set us apart as we truly care about the person before the player. I am most proud brand wise at our Swoops Hoops Top 20 all area showcase in which we have had players who were unsigned gain college recognition and go on to receive scholarships from the event. I would like readers to know that we train different and we want the best for each person who comes through our program. We offer mentorship, leadership training, and life skills as well as basketball and sports training.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see our industry growing and our organization is going to expand outside of Georgia.
