Hidden Gems: Meet Tammy McCall of Soul Purpose Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy McCall.

Tammy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2020, during a time when the world was experiencing significant change, I received my license as a professional
counselor. During this time of uncertainty, God placed a clear vision on my heart to establish a counseling practice that
would serve individuals in a meaningful, purposeful way. While continuing my role as a School Counselor, I began taking
intentional steps in pursuit of that vision. In November 2020, I saw my first client, and Soul Purpose Counseling was born.
What began as a step of faith, has grown into a safe place for growth, healing, and purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the journey has been smoother than imagined, but it has not been without challenges. The licensure process was
rigorous and required perseverance, discipline and the guidance of mentors and colleagues. Balancing school counseling
and a therapy practice has required intentional planning. Identifying my specialties and client base has required thoughtful
consideration, continued learning, and self-reflection. Over time, working directly with clients has helped to clarify where
my strengths and passion align, allowing my practice to grow with purpose.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Soul Purpose Counseling?
Over time, my work has naturally centered on providing therapy to adolescents and young adults who are navigating life transitions, emotional challenges, and the pressures of an ever-changing world. Approaches are tailored to the individual based on presenting concerns. These experiences have shaped the foundation of Soul Purpose Counseling, which is dedicated to helping clients confront their situations, identify and challenge negative thoughts and behaviors, and develop an intentional plan for moving forward.

At the heart of my work is the belief that changing mindsets is essential to overcoming challenges. While we cannot always control what happens to us, we can control our reactions to it. In a non-judgmental environment, strong therapeutic relationships are developed. I am most proud of my ability to connect with others. According to the parent of one of my clients, “She has a superpower in her ability to say it straight and with a lot of heart.” We work to set clear, measurable goals and work to break the barriers that are hindering clients from reaching their full potential. My desire and ultimate goal is to assist individuals to move beyond short term relief to lasting solutions.

Today, Soul Purpose Counseling reflects both my professional training and my commitment to serving others with faith, integrity, compassion and purpose.

There have been so many people who have played a part in my success, and I am deeply grateful for those who have supported me along the way. I give thanks to God for blessing me with the gifts and talents necessary to grow my practice and for strategically placing people in my life to guide and support me. I am grateful for my family and close friends who pray for me and give me never ending support and encouragement. I am truly blessed to have so many positive people cheering me on as I walk in my purpose.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I believe there will be an increased need for services especially for adolescents and young adults in the areas of behavior modification and emotional resilience. There will be a need for increased emphasis on early intervention and prevention. Schools, families and communities are becoming more aware that mental health support must begin earlier. Soul Purpose Counseling fits naturally within this direction by supporting adolescents and young adults in recognizing their strengths, challenging self-defeating narratives, and developing emotional resilience that will assist them in growing with intention and purpose.
