Today we’d like to introduce you to Zakia Miller.
Hi Zakia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started out as freelance makeup artist in 2008, doing makeup I saw a lot of faces, some with very problematic skin. Being someone who struggled with very bad acne as a teen, I essentially knew what to do to heal common skin issues however because I was not licensed or certified I could not really advise.
In 2016 I decided to leave my corporate job and pursue my education in esthetics, as I had developed a deep love for skincare and I really enjoyed making women feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin.
In 2020 after being furloughed from my esthetics job due to the pandemic, I decided to strike out on my own and fully focus on my baby, Ansari Aesthetics.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the worst of times but I have definitely faced some obstacles. I had to sell my house and move in with my sister (who lived over an hour away) to attend esthetics school, as I had a little one at the time who needed care, and I needed help. I am grateful to my family for supporting my career change and being there to help with my son.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The name Ansari comes from the Arabic word Ansar which translates to “Helper or Supporter”.
The Ansar were the local inhabitants of Medina who, in Islamic tradition, took the Islamic prophet Muhammad and his followers into their homes when they emigrated from Mecca.
At Ansari Aesthetics, we focus on fostering a genuine connection with our clients, who we like to call our “skin friends”. Our priorities are results & relaxation. As we focus on healing and caring for the skin to create the perfect canvas; our goal is to not only help our clients alleviate their skin issues but to also support their mental state through challenging times. We accomplish this through our intuitive and integrated skincare approach; a blend of uniquely crafted signature services and traditional treatments.
Ansari Aesthetics offers services in a private setting, allowing guests to have an exclusive personalized experience with a licensed competent professional.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I’m a southern girl, I grew up in Georgia. However, every year, as soon as school was out, my family would head to New Jersey to spend the summer with family. It was during that time that I developed a love for beauty services. My aunt Vicky would let me curl her hair, paint her nails, do her makeup, and she even trusted me with tweezers at a very young age. In addition to practicing my craft, I was able to experience urban culture and observe a different standard of beauty than what I was used to seeing in the south. The streets of Pleasantville and Atlantic City, New Jersey taught me a lot.
