Alysha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the tax profession wasn’t something I stumbled into—it was something that grew out of a passion for helping people understand their finances.

I’ve always loved numbers and problem-solving, which led me to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Savannah State University and later my Master’s degree from Kennesaw State University. As I began working with clients, I quickly realized that taxes were about much more than preparing returns. Behind every tax return was a family, a dream, a business, or someone simply trying to make the best financial decisions they could.

What surprised me most was that many successful people—people making great incomes and building thriving businesses—still felt confused or even intimidated by taxes. They weren’t lacking intelligence; they were lacking education. No one had ever taught them how the tax system actually works or how to use it strategically.

That realization changed everything for me.

I became an IRS Enrolled Agent and later earned my Certified Tax Strategist designation because I wanted to provide more than compliance. I wanted to become an advocate and educator who could help people legally reduce their tax burden while building long-term financial confidence.

That passion led me to establish Distinct Tax Consulting Group, where we help clients with tax planning, tax strategy, and advisory services. But I knew there was still a bigger mission.

That’s why I created The Tax AdvizHER.

The Tax AdvizHER was born from the belief that financial literacy shouldn’t be a privilege—it should be accessible to everyone. My mission is to close the financial literacy gap by helping people understand taxes in a way that’s practical, honest, and empowering. I want people to stop making financial decisions out of fear and start making them from a place of knowledge and confidence.

Today, whether I’m advising business owners, speaking on stage, educating online, or helping families understand their finances, my purpose remains the same: to simplify what others complicate and help people create financial freedom through education.

Because at the end of the day, I don’t just want people to file better tax returns—I want them to build better financial futures. That’s why our message at The Tax AdvizHER is, “Freedom Starts with Financial Truth.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. Like most entrepreneurs, my journey has come with its share of challenges, and I honestly believe those experiences shaped both who I am and why I do this work today.

One of the biggest challenges has been earning trust in an industry where so many people have had negative experiences. Many individuals and business owners have been given poor advice, promised unrealistic results, or made to feel embarrassed because they didn’t understand taxes. By the time they come to me, they’re often carrying fear, frustration, and a lack of confidence in the process.

Another challenge has been changing people’s mindset. So many people view taxes as something you only think about during filing season. Helping them understand that taxes are a year-round strategy—not just an annual obligation—takes education and consistency. But that’s also the part of my work I enjoy the most because you can actually see people’s confidence grow as they begin to understand how everything fits together.

Building a business has also required me to grow personally. I’ve had to learn how to lead a team, create systems, make difficult decisions, and continue investing in myself as both a business owner and an educator. Every new season has required a different version of me.

What I’ve learned through all of those experiences is that challenges aren’t roadblocks—they’re opportunities to grow. They’ve reinforced my belief that people deserve honest education, transparency, and someone who genuinely wants them to succeed.

Those experiences are a big part of why I created The Tax AdvizHER. It wasn’t built just to prepare tax returns. It was built to create clarity, restore confidence, and help people make informed financial decisions without fear or confusion.

Looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey because every challenge strengthened my purpose. Today, I’m able to serve my clients with greater empathy, greater expertise, and an even stronger commitment to helping them achieve financial freedom through education.

The Tax AdvizHER is an education-first financial brand with a simple but powerful mission: to close the financial literacy gap by helping people understand taxes, money, and financial strategy in a way that’s clear, practical, and empowering.

While many people know me through my work as the founder of Distinct Tax Consulting Group, where we provide tax planning, tax strategy, advisory services, and tax preparation, I created The Tax AdvizHER because I recognized a much bigger need. People weren’t just looking for someone to prepare their taxes—they were looking for someone to help them understand them.

That realization became the foundation of our brand.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was naturally curious and always wanted to understand how things worked. I asked a lot of questions, paid attention to details, and genuinely enjoyed solving problems. If something didn’t make sense to me, I wasn’t satisfied until I found the answer.

I’ve always been driven and goal-oriented. Whether it was academics, leadership opportunities, or extracurricular activities, I enjoyed challenging myself and giving my best. Looking back, I realize I wasn’t just interested in getting the right answer—I wanted to understand the “why” behind it. That curiosity has stayed with me throughout my life and is one of the reasons I love educating others today.

I was also someone people naturally came to for help. I enjoyed explaining things, encouraging others, and helping people feel more confident. Even then, I found a lot of fulfillment in seeing someone go from confused to understanding something they once thought was difficult.

At the same time, I was well-rounded. I loved being involved, building relationships, and taking on leadership roles. Those experiences taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and showing up consistently—qualities that continue to shape how I lead my businesses today.

As I’ve grown, I’ve realized those same characteristics—curiosity, discipline, empathy, and a love for teaching—are at the heart of everything I do. They naturally evolved into my passion for financial education and eventually became the foundation of The Tax AdvizHER.

Today, I still approach my work with that same curiosity and desire to help people understand. The only difference is that now I’m helping individuals, families, and business owners gain confidence in one of the most important areas of their lives: their finances.

In many ways, I’ve become exactly who I was growing up—someone who loves learning, loves teaching, and believes that when people truly understand something, they’re empowered to make better decisions. That’s the heart of who I am, both personally and professionally.
