Hi Ameerah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Ameerah Brown-McMullen, and I’m originally from Trenton, New Jersey. I moved to Atlanta with nothing but hope, faith, and the belief that there were greater opportunities waiting for me. Today, I’m a Presidential Scholar at Clark Atlanta University, where I’m pursuing a degree in Business Marketing.

During my freshman year of college, I realized I needed another source of income while balancing school. That’s when I officially launched my hair business, VIVO Hair Collection.

VIVO stands for “Vision Is a Vigilant Oath.” To me, it means that who I am today was once a vision God placed in my heart. Being vigilant means protecting that vision, staying disciplined, and remaining committed despite challenges. The oath is my promise to fulfill the purpose, business endeavors, and opportunities that God has entrusted me with.

Starting a business wasn’t easy, but I was blessed to have a mentor in Trenton, New Jersey, who guided me through the process of becoming an entrepreneur. Their support gave me the foundation and confidence to build VIVO Hair Collection into something real.

Since then, I’ve continued growing as both a business owner and a marketing student, constantly seeking opportunities to learn, network, and expand my brand. My journey is still just beginning, but every step has strengthened my faith and reminded me that with consistency, hard work, and trust in God, visions can become reality.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Nothing about my journey has been easy. Growing up in Trenton, New Jersey, I saw firsthand how many people around me struggled and didn’t always have access to the same opportunities that I have been blessed to receive. Those experiences taught me resilience and made me appreciate every opportunity that came my way.

Throughout every hardship, I’ve remained grounded in my faith and trusted God through every season. When I was preparing to move to Atlanta, I had no idea how I was going to make my vision of living here a reality. In fact, I didn’t even want to go to college at first. But God opened a door I never expected by blessing me with a Presidential Scholarship to Clark Atlanta University. I truly believe that was His way of placing me exactly where I was meant to be.

Since moving to Atlanta, I’ve had to navigate life on my own. I left behind my family, friends, and everything that was familiar to me in Trenton. Starting over in a new city has been challenging, but it has also helped me grow into a stronger, more independent person.

Looking back, I’m thankful for every hardship because each one has shaped who I am today. More than anything, I’m grateful to God for carrying me through every obstacle, guiding my steps, and placing me in the position I’m in today. Every challenge has strengthened my faith and reminded me that His plan is always greater than my own.

As VIVO continues to grow, my vision extends beyond hair. I want it to become a lifestyle brand that represents confidence, femininity, ambition, and faith. Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is learning how to play softball and training to become a collegiate softball player. Some of my best memories are with my dad introducing me to the sport and being there every step of the way. He showed up to every game, paid for extra training, was always the loudest person in the stands, and gave me the tough love and advice I needed both on and off the field.

At the time, I didn’t fully realize how special those moments were. Looking back now, especially being away from home in college, I’ve come to appreciate how much those experiences shaped me. Softball taught me discipline, perseverance, and confidence, but more importantly, it gave me an unbreakable bond with my dad. Those memories remind me that some of life’s greatest blessings aren’t just the accomplishments—they’re the people who believed in you every step of the way.
