Inspiring Conversations with Apostle: Dr. Shameka R. Pointer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Apostle: Dr. Shameka R. Pointer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It started off as being told, “YOU WILL NEVER BE ANYTHING”. It started of growing up in foster care. It started off being talked about, rejected and misunderstood. In reality, it didn’t start off good. Along the journey, I had an abortion around the age of 19. A little along way I was in a car wreck which resulted in a broken neck, A little more down the journey I was abused by different men. So, it definitely didn’t look good but somewhere along the journey I found God and my whole life change my career started with a mere thought, but I didn’t know how I was going to get to where I wanted to go. I had been a CNA for over 18 years, but I knew I did not want to continue this career and even though I was making good money it just wasn’t it for me my heart longed for counseling and ministry. So, after doing what was necessary to get my counseling career started. I got my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate all in Christian Counseling.

I also became a Certified Anger Management Specialist, Certified Hypnosis Therapist, Certified Life Coach, Chaplain, and Social Worker, but this only tells who I am naturally. Ministry-wise, I am an Apostle. I am a Pastor with my husband for Pastor Open Heart International of Atlanta, Georgia. I am the founder of Open-Heart Counseling Services, Inc. (Jonesboro, Ga, Birmingham, Alabama, and Griffin, Ga locations). I am a published author of 15 books with more in the making. I am also in the middle of launching Open Heart Christian University and Bible College which will be open by September 2023. So, I said all that to say this, it started rocky, but my ending will be great……………….

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Many days I wanted to give up. My belief was shaky, and I just struggled with my self-confidence. So no, it wasn’t smooth, and it is still challenging but I am going forth with the strength that God gives me.
