Inspiring Conversations with Brittany Long of Valor Communities

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Long.

Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am from Atlanta born and raised. I grew up on the north side in Gwinnett County after high school I moved away and went to college in South Carolina at Benedict College. From early on I always enjoyed doing hair and making others feel and look pretty. My second year into college I realized I wanted to go to hair school so I dropped out and moved back to Atlanta to pursue a career and cosmetology. After receiving my cosmetology license, I dove headfirst into the world of hair and beauty. I spent 15 years developing my craft and helping women feel beautiful. I’ve done every version of hair art that I can think of. From working in a salon with others to managing my own salon suite to on demand hair for production. I ended my cosmetology career as a wedding stylist, which I enjoyed the most. I still have a deep love for hair, but I knew it was time to pursue a new passion. I decided to pursue a career in real estate. Real estate has always been present in my life with my mother and godmother being my guides. They both had been working in real estate for many years before I decided to get licensed. After several attempts, I finally received my real estate license in 2024. My goal was to work in new construction serving first time homebuyers. After a year of searching for the perfect opportunity, I joined Davidson Homes as a sales assistant. After training and learning the business for six months, I was promoted to a sales agent position. I later took that knowledge and experience and shifted my focus to a position more focused on helping first time homebuyers achieve the dream of home ownership. My goal with real estate was always to encourage and educate people who thought home ownership was too far from their reach. I enjoy being a resource to my community and providing them with a service that sets them up fro success.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing I have done in my life has really been a smooth road. As big as my dreams are, somehow the obstacles to get there have been just as big. Being a hairstylist was a natural talent of mine so I assumed it would be easy to gain clientele and operate independently. I came to find out it was everything but easy. Doing the hair was the easiest part of it all. Being the owner and operator of a business is hard work and long hours. Collaborating with other can be just as challenging navigating those different presonalities and staying professional along the way. I tried several different avenues before landing in the wedding hair space. In my real estate life, things didnt start out smooth either. I took the state test several times, sometimes being 1 point away from passing before I finally made it across that finish line. There were so many times I wanted to quit and do what was easy but I was determined not to let 1 test keep me from my chapter in life. But passing the test was just the start. New construction is a much different beast than general or commercial real estate. Many things I learned in class did not apply in this world so I was starting all over again once I finally secured a job. I am forever grateful for the people that saw something in me and gave me a chance. Even now only a few yrs in there is so much more for me to learn and I take every challenge as a test of my determination and will to be better.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

How do you think about happiness?
Being close to my family and tight knit friend group brings me the most joy. I enjoy watching my newphews grow into young men and being a big part of their daily lives. Family vactions turned into great adventures and wonderful memories. During my leisure time I enjoy being close to the water, from nature walks to hidden waterfalls around Atlanta to digging my toes in the sand on a beach getaway are my favorite ways to unwind. You can also catch me snuggled up in front of a bonfire with some good music and some good vibes.
