Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas (Doug) Reid.
Hi Douglas (Doug), thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career in broadcasting as an on air personality. I switched careers to return to Atlanta where I had gone to broadcast school to take a position as the chief of operations for a private investigator firm. While there started my own business on the side. I currently still own Venture Sports shows some 35 years later. Approximately seven years ago, I founded a second business, Venture Muzik Group , a record label with a main focus on pop, R&B, and country music. Our music is found on all platforms and distributed by Universal Music Group to a worldwide audience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like all business people, I have had my share of ups and downs. Perhaps the most drastic time was when Covid hit while I was really working hard to get my record label off the ground and successful. Due to so many obstacles because of the closure of businesses that we were working with, and the fact that I personally got Covid twice. I probably couldn’t have picked a worse time to get the business off the ground. After getting through this. I assumed the worst was behind me only to be involved in a severe car accident that almost cost me my life. I went through two surgeries before being able to get healthy enough to resume daily operations some three years later.
We’ve been impressed with Venture Muzik Group , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our record label is currently providing music in the R&B, country, and pop genre’s. Our goal is not to be the biggest label but always put out top quality music with emerging artist. We are very proud to have a fantastic staff, which includes John.”Sly” Wilson former vice president for Joe Jackson as well as lead singer for the R&B Hall of Fame group Sly,Slick and Wicked. Also. my wife Lisa is vice president or media relations. We are proud to announce that artist Lina Loi has new music coming out on our label beginning in early November. We expect this to be some of the hottest music across many platforms. The first song is called Boots on my birthday, and will be accompanied by an exciting video shot recently in Texas.
What’s next?
We are thrilled about our working relationship with long time music executive Paul Ring of Bungalo Records and look forward to continuing to working together an additional projects with distribution through Universal Music Group. It is also our hope and desire to be able provide our music for release in film and movies. We are also going to be working. on tapping into the huge Japanese market for our artist through personal contacts of our staff.
