Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Yancey.

Hi Kathryn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
KDY Cosmetics, by Kathryn Denise Yancey, began during the COVID-19 pandemic. How it came about is that after closing my event business, I took a job at the post office. There I quickly saw that while some businesses were struggling, e-commerce was thriving. That experience inspired me to pray for a business that could reach every household, much like the post office does. During that time, wearing masks caused my skin to break out, and God led me to combine ingredients I already used into products that cleared my skin very quickly. Then I felt God tell me, “Everybody has a face,” and that was my aha moment—the beginning of KDY Cosmetics. Later, when my hair began to fall out, I again used natural ingredients I already knew to create products that helped grow it back quickly. As a cosmetologist, I also saw a need among men who wanted to grow their beards, so I created a superior beard product, which works very effectively too. Today, KDY Cosmetics is best known for its flagship products: The Enyance Facial System, Hair Enyance, Hair Enyance Growth Oil, and Beard Enyance. Since the beginning of KDY Cosmetics, for every presumed problem that I’ve faced with my hair, face or skin, God just gives me the ability to create a product to correct it. So now I welcome the issues when they present themselves, knowing that they are needed as a catalyst to create solutions that fix problems, and in turn expand the brand.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for various reasons. However, I feel that all of the unwanted delays were necessary in refining the products and procedures. The tagline for KDY Cosmetics, used to be Keep Doing You, but I changed it to Keep Doing Yah because I want to be sure to give God all the glory for everything, including every business He blesses me with. A primary obstacle that I faced was that when I began creating products, I was living in a room in my aunt’s basement. My living arrangement was really helpful financially, but hard because I had to primarily create and live in the same space. Working in such tight quarters was extremely challenging. I then had to move unexpectedly and lived in my car a few months during the winter. I eventually found a live/work space and picked back up the pieces and moved forward. In hindsight, everything has only made me stronger. There have definitely been financial challenges as well, but I’m still standing. I never like to focus on the negative more than the positive, so I rarely give a lot of time or attention to complaining about hardships. I instead focus on all of the blessings I receive daily.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about KDY Cosmetics?
The name of my business is KDY Cosmetics. KDY Cosmetics specializes in providing healthy skin and hair solutions that solve everyday problems for everyday people. We are black-owned, female-owned, and our hand-crafted, homemade products formulated with natural ingredients are cruelty free, paraben free, aluminum free, silicone free, phthalates free, petroleum free, mineral oil free and are made right here in the U.S.A. But what’s even more impressive is that KDY Cosmetics has created a line of products that really work! Brand-wise I am most proud that KDY Cosmetics is known for helping men and women who have hair and skin insecurities recover their self-confidence. Any big plans?
Plans for the future include utilizing affiliate marketing to a high degree as well as having a mainstay presence on social media which reward clients who share their journey in real-time.
