Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Scott.
Hi Lorenzo , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I launched my mental health podcast, Medicine Ball LS3, during the 2019–2020 pandemic. With a background in music production, studio work, and event promotion in Atlanta, I already had a foundation in audio engineering and content creation. The podcast started as a space for transparency—sharing my journey with a bipolar I diagnosis and how I’ve worked to navigate life’s challenges in a healthy, intentional way. I’ve spent time in Leadership courses, Mentorship Programs, Volunteering: 4 years V.I.S.T.A (Volunteers in Service to America), 2 years H.O.A (Hands on Atlanta) and giving back in the community all while striving to become a decent and well rounded individual.
As time went on, the podcast and my life coaching services began to gain traction, building a strong and engaged following. I was laid off from a management position with Humana through Concentrix. Disappointed, a friend who’s family had a crab business came to me with a proposition which led me to relocate to Florida and pursue a new opportunity in the blue crab industry.
During this season, the podcast took a two-year pause, but it was never abandoned. I used that time to sharpen my entrepreneurial skills—learning business operations, managing finances, working with banks, and handling larger-scale responsibilities. At the same time, I was developing new skills in branding, video editing, and content strategy to prepare for a stronger return.
Today, I’ve relaunched Medicine Ball with a video component and expanded across multiple social platforms. I continue to grow my audience while offering life coaching and mentorship rooted in real-life experience, transparency, and faith. What sets me apart is that I’m not speaking from theory—I’m living it. I’m navigating mental health, entrepreneurship, and adversity in real time, while also operating as a Black business owner in the predominantly white commercial fishing industry.
My mission is simple: to help others face life’s challenges with resilience, perspective, and faith—using both my struggles and successes as proof that growth is always possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Along the way, I’ve faced challenges that tested me mentally, emotionally, and professionally.
One of the hardest moments was losing a close friend to suicide. It forced me to question myself deeply—if I didn’t recognize what he was going through, how could I truly show up as a life coach and motivator for others? That experience shook me, but it also pushed me to become more aware, more present, and more intentional in how I support people.
This is the same time that I was laid off from a salaried leadership position—not because of performance, but due to company-wide cuts. Being “last in, first out” was a tough reality to accept and felt like a major setback.
On top of that, building the crab business has been both an opportunity and a challenge. It’s an industry that depends heavily on nature, and with crabs being scarce at times, it has created financial pressure and strained some relationships. With a significant amount of capital invested and still finding my footing, it hasn’t been easy to navigate.
I was trying to keep the podcast alive and continue pouring into it. There were doubts, funding issues, and a steep learning curve—teaching myself video editing, building brand templates, and expanding content. Balancing all of this could at times be overwhelming. Every obstacle has been part of the journey. Each challenge—no matter how difficult—has helped shape me, strengthen me, and prepare me for where I am today.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe luck has played a major role in my life or business—but if I reflect on it, I can see how both “good” and “bad” moments have shaped me.
What I’d call good luck has consistently drawn me back to Christ and reminded me of God’s faithfulness, even when I haven’t been as obedient as I should be. In those moments, I’ve experienced unexpected opportunities and breakthroughs that helped me move forward when I felt stuck.
What might be seen as bad luck—trials, setbacks, and difficult seasons—has ultimately strengthened me. Those experiences built my character, made me more resilient, and helped shape who I am today. From a spiritual perspective, I’ve learned to remain grateful in all circumstances, trusting that God is present and working through every situation for growth.
