Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorraine Rebuelta.
Hi Lorraine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First, I just was to say thank you so much for this opportunity, I am delighted to connect with your readers. I’m Lorraine, however many know me as LoLo these days. My story with massage and healing arts began when I was 9 years old, walking into my first crystal shop. My mom was on her own journey of rediscovery and didn’t filter her new experiences from my siblings and I — I grew up around the mystical. Psychic readings, meditative message circles, and exposure to healing arts as a young mind. I have this glimmer of a memory of my mother and I discussing energy. A vivid conversation with her telling me that my hands held power inside them. That they could heal — even heal myself. I didn’t fully understand what she meant at the time, but it stuck with me, and this whole journey with massage has brought me full circle back to those very words.
Growing up, my passions lived elsewhere — dance, singing, theatre, creative writing and many art mediums. I went to college for journalism and later switched to communications in attempt to mold into adulthood. When I began to feel a real lack of fulfillment, I made the strong willed decision to step away from school for a while after being a great student my entire life. I continued to work full-time, enjoy time with my loved ones, my dog, solo traveled, went to music festivals, began performing at them, co-founded a performance troupe, deepened my love of self expression, dance, flow arts, was the lead singer of a band and slowly realized I wanted a career that would authentically shape itself into the rest of my eccentric life. One that would evolve me, ground me, nourish me, protect my passions and was energetically aligned with the colorful life I had created for myself in my twenties. The heart of my desire to learn massage was to create safe spaces that I could help cultivate and also coexist in. A synergy that would allow me to truly assist people in their healing journey without losing myself in the process. Strengthening my boundaries was something I’d struggled with since childhood, it was important to honor and build them in my career. Massage kept circling back into my mind as a beautiful path to find the balance of it all within.
In 2019, through a chance connection I made at a small festival in the Blue Ridge mountains — the stars aligned and I was told of the Cohutta Healing Arts Institute (CHAI) in Ellijay. Ga. A tiny, intimate massage school held in a 1900’s home in the heart of the city. The moment I took a tour and had a heart warming conversation with the dean of the school, I knew it was all beginning to unravel through divine timing. I still remember my first day of school, crying tears of purpose on the drive home. After a lifetime of feeling like there was a door for me I hadn’t opened yet, this was it.
I went to CHAI 2019-2020. Through the global pandemic, which — instead of derailing things, deepened my education and overall experience. A highlight of my experience was my reintroduction to my breath. To fully understand the anatomy and neuroscience of a proper breath. It then helped me assist clients out of the fear some felt from being touched during that time. It blew my mind to witness how shifting into better breath techniques would enhance my clients overall experience and allow for a dose of healthy touch to then follow. It taught me the dancing relationship between our breath, our nervous system and our body. This is something that still shapes how I work with my client’s today. I went on to proudly graduate in October 2020 with a 4.0 GPA, completed a 750hr program and passed the MBLEX exam. Thus, the real magic began. I was officially a Licensed Massage Therapist.
The beginning of my career included a spa Blue Ridge where I worked briefly, then sustained a severe neck injury. I then assisted myself recovery, using the knowledge and techniques I gained in school. I found that along with PT, my new found understanding of the body helped me heal more intentionally. I didn’t know yet that this injury would go on to inspire me to become a neck and upper body specialist. Shortly after recovering, I made my way to the Woodhouse Spa in Alpharetta, where I still work partially today and the team truly feels like a family. I embraced all levels of in house training there and found myself still longing for more within my career. By the beginning of 2023, I knew I was ready to build something of my own and step into entrepreneurship.
That spring I began to work with my mentor, Kassy Nova — ( a real life fairy godmother ). She assisted me with bringing my dreams to life. It was in those nine months that I really began to see my visions manifest. On December 7th, Nui Movement Intuitive Massage & Healing Arts officially launched. Nui Movement is a Latina owned small business in Kennesaw ( North-Metro Atlanta ) . “Nui” is the Hawaiian word for abundance, and to me “movement” has always meant more than motion — more so something rebellious in nature and purpose driven, a crescendo of momentum. Nui Movement is a safe space for alchemizing your wellness and embracing a “Nui” you! Beyond a brand, it presents itself to the community as a place to honor transformation and transmutation. To release, to recalibrate the body, mind + soul. To grieve, to grow, to heal, to feel, to be a messy human; inspiring you to meet yourself where you are, because I will meet you there too.
I intentionally didn’t want to build just a “massage business.” I wanted to build an expressive healing arts practice — one where my artistry, heart and spirit are as present as my techniques. In February 2024, I also launched The Transmutation Station, a pop-up wellness experience. A chance to step out and bring chair massage, hand reflexology, sacred scalp massages, tarot readings, handmade goods and my printed poetry into the community.
Today, I’m proudly coming up on three years in business as a solo entrepreneur. I’ve grown as a person, a movement artist, and a massage therapist. I’ve become an upper body specialist, certified in Myofascial Cervical Isolation — a focus on the neck in relation to the scalp, and jaw. It’s also a form of TMJ relief. My other bodywork services range from therapeutic massage to luxury spa body treatments.
Beyond massage, I offer breath work sessions as a certified breath practice coach and tarot readings. Reiki training and facilitating alchemizing workshops are soon to begin. Lastly, a passion project is in the works that embodies the spirit of revolutionary self help, rituals through the mirrors of movement and wellness. It will truly be an honor to bring to life. I’m ready to pour my heart into this next chapter.
At the heart of my work, I strive to create authentic, deeply felt experiences carefully crafted to your individual needs. Especially to those that are neurodivergent, as I am myself. My mission is to create a safe space to experience the art of true alchemy and rediscovery of one self. To embrace vulnerability and sensitivity as a strength in a world that tells us it’s not. Nui Movement is a revolution of wellness that radically exists to remind people that there’s peace to come home to, in each of our bodies — exactly as we are. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being you. As always, Stay in your magic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not always been the smoothest, and I don’t think it was ever meant to be. Although I’ve had perseverance along the way and deep devotion to my dreams, there have been moments where my inner light felt very dim. Where I couldn’t see the end of the tunnel. Behind every session I offer, there’s a version of me who had to survive her own chaos first — some I share openly, and some I’m only now finding the words for. Here’s a piece of that story.
One especially difficult chapter brought a series of unfortunate events. With my neck injury just four months into my career I also faced highs and lows with my mental health in the transition into my career. A life-threatening moment with staph infection, a brutal breakup, friendship’s ending, and stepping into a more prominent role in my family to provide from time to time, in the midst of the global pandemic. I don’t fully know how I carried it all at once, but I did — and it shaped some of the resilience I bring into this work.
Grief has also been a significant part of what I’ve survived. The first person I ever lost was my dad at 17, and I’ve said goodbye to too many friends since then too — with the most recent being last year. It never gets easier, you just get stronger. These experiences of loss combined with being trauma-informed is something I carry into my sessions whenever a client is grieving. I know what that particular weight feels like, and I try to hold space for it to the best of my ability within my scope of practice.
More recently, 2025 brought a family crisis unlike ever before and while still trying to run my business and show up for my clients, I was challenged tremendously with juggling it all. Being that I am closest to this person, I became their life line and the glue holding things together for my family. I was a messenger to those in our personal community who knew what was happening. That experience taught me, in real time, just how capable I can be when facing adversity. It also eventually helped put myself first without guilt once things settled — if I didn’t, I would’ve had nothing left to give my clients. I am forever grateful to those who helped carry the weight of that hardship, reciprocated unconditional love and even had a few clients who really showed me support and grace when I was out of touch with myself for a bit.
One significant challenge in this field of practice I feel called to speak on is navigating safety within the massage industry, especially as a young woman. In the society we live in, not everyone who reaches out wants genuine wellness care, and I’ve had to go as far as filing a police report and build real precautions into how I run my business for my own safety. Solicitation, and in more serious cases trafficking, exist in the shadows of this field — something licensed therapists are educated on in school and trained to navigate, even though we shouldn’t have to. We are wellness practitioners, licensed massage therapists, not masseuses.
I feel strongly about advocating for that distinction and to raise awareness of what we have the possibility of experiencing.
What got me through it all wasn’t one single thing, but a collection of small, steady anchors. Therapy was a consistent — a space to actually process rather than just push through. Bodywork has been my own go to medicine too; receiving it helps regulate my nervous system, releasing stagnant energy and emotions. Finding trusted body workers in my community who help me feel nourished and held, especially during challenging chapters — has made all the difference. Additionally, I’ve done deep self- work over the years, learning slowly that I’m allowed to be gentle with myself. My family, close friends, and my mentor showed up for me then in ways I’ll never be able to fully express all my gratitude for. I leaned into my hobbies whenever I could, embraced the potent medicine of simply not taking life so seriously sometimes. Many long walks, solo dance sessions, music turned all the way up, and a whole lot of comic relief when I needed it most. Shout out to my dog for real, Oliver James aka my earth angel through it all — some of my deep healing happened with him. Cuddles, night time walks at exactly the pace I needed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Nui Movement is a brand that believes in the art of massage, and the alchemy of magic. Just as we embody movement — whether it be physically, emotionally, energetically charged — we as humans need spaces to dance within our shadows, unapologetically. Many feel the pull of this paradox, this aching awareness toward something more, yet don’t always know how to manage the shift. But the magic lives there, in the unknown — in the conscious decision to no longer self abandon. To choose what is not yet tangible, because you trust that the best is yet to come. That is what I do. I help you find that self awareness, and nourish the desire within it to bloom. I hold your hand through the unfolding of the process revealing itself until you can come home to your own magic. I assist you in healing, through your body first. Connecting the dots to the many ways massage can be the heart center of your healing. To highlight how it is preventive medicine.
I am a licensed massage therapist, yes — but at the heart of what I do is hold. I hold the moment. I hold your body: physically, emotionally, energetically. I help you anchor into yourself through guided breath, and through permission — permission to be seen, felt, and witnessed. I specialize in sensory play, taking a journey through your nervous system and what enhances positive responses. Creating customized experiences led by you and for you — immersive experiences built through gentle music, soft visuals, inviting aromas and intentional touch. Every offering is a gentle play on the senses, a way to bio-hack the mind into stillness, inviting you to finally, softly, exhale.
What sets me apart is that I perceive myself as more of a movement artist. The flow of massage, meeting my passion for dance and storytelling that has lived in me since the beginning, has cultivated who I am today. I’ve learned to let that same fluidity I harness through my artistry; to move through my hands, through my flow, through my magic, arrive in the ways I meet a body on the table. My clients feel this — it echoes back in the way they speak about their experiences and our time together.
What I am most proud of, brand-wise, is that it feels like me. Transparent. Unfiltered. Authentic. I have taken off every mask I once wore to show up with integrity, unapologetically myself, in full service to my community. Nui Movement is not just a brand I built. It is my soul purpose unraveling and taking form.
To my readers, to my future clients — I want you to know you will never be judged here for simply showing up for yourself. You will be met with unconditional positive regard. You are not alone in this. I also truly love to educate my clients as much as I hold space for them — every session is uniquely crafted to meet you, because I understand that what you need today may not be what you need tomorrow. That we are always spiraling deeper into the knowing of ourselves, and this space will meet you wherever that spiral lands.
The current massage modalities I offer include: traditional Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, hot stone, sports, postural assessments, muscle energy techniques, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, and myofascial cervical isolation ( for neck, cranial, and TMJ relief), gliding cupping, reflexology, assisted stretching, and lymphatic decongestion with dry brushing.
My specialty services include: The Transmutation Station — an immersive chair massage experience for vending markets, corporate businesses, and private events. I offer mobile massage ranging from Blue Ridge to Atlanta for occasions like cabin calls, staycations, weddings, and celebrations, as well as customizable group massage packages. I am open to opportunities involving travel or opportunities to teach massage-adjacent workshops and courses. Tarot card readings are available online, 1:1, for private parties and events. I’m seeking opportunities to facilitate somatic breath work practice for community gatherings, small groups, and I currently offer 1:1 sessions online or in person. In the near future, Nui Movement will also expand its offerings with Reiki, alchemizing workshops, revitalizing body treatments, astrology readings, herbal remedies and topicals.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a creator of my reality at its finest — just a kid with a huge imagination. One who embraced life visually first, I loved art, drawing, and painting above all else. I was always expressive with my talents and hobbies, however I was not the most social person — unlike the version people now know of me today. As a very young girl, I was shy and easily overstimulated by the outside world; I’d even cry if someone looked at me for no real reason. Looking back, I just want to give that little version of LoLo a hug — I didn’t understand then how to express to others that I was a highly sensitive being, but it all makes sense now. I was quiet, happy in my own little world, content staying there.
There’s a family story I love from that era: one time I got in trouble and was told jokingly, that I was “going to jail” for my behavior. So I packed a little suitcase full of my art supplies and tried to run away. My mom asked what I was doing, and I cried to her that I’d need to bring my art supplies to jail — because how else would I grow up to be an artist? I giggle when I think of her. Little LoLo would be proud of who I’ve become.
As I got older, I slowly learned to navigate being more outgoing, and creative expression became my bridge into that. I danced from age two through eighteen, did competitive dance throughout middle and high school. I was deeply involved in performance — dance outside of school, and in school: show choir, chorus, chamber choir, theatre, even choreographing a few shows my senior year. In school, I signed up for any art or creative writing class I could. I spent most of my free time fully immersed in whatever creative world I was building. Immersing myself into art was my safest space.
Alongside all of that creative expression, a few things remained constant: my love for nature — the ocean, collecting sea shells, the moon, the stars, animals — astrology, which I started studying at eleven and still study today. Music brought me closer to my siblings. I come from a family of singers — music was the heart of our household growing up.
Travel has played a part in shaping me since childhood. I was fortunate enough to call Cancun, Mexico my second home from the age of two through twenty-two. It holds the sweetest memories of my family and my upbringing. It was where I received a massage for the very first time.
In college, I studied abroad freshman year and explored Europe for the first time — and 2 years later, I sold my car, bought a one-way ticket, and moved to Germany to be near my sister while I took a break from my education. While I lived there, I was learning photography from a friend and we would travel to new cities as often as possible. My first true solo trip came in 2018, to Costa Rica. Just this past month, after an eight year hiatus from solo travel, I returned to it with a trip to France and Spain — which reminded me how deeply fulfilling travel is to my soul. It’s sparked real excitement to keep my adventures going. I’d love to eventually travel the world studying different massage modalities, weaving that same wanderlust into the growth of my business — bringing everything full circle, from that little girl with her suitcase to the woman I am today.
