Inspiring Conversations with Misty Schwartz of Schwartz Entertainment Media Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Schwartz.

Hi Misty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into the entertainment and media industry is probably “book-worthy.” It’s been a beautiful, unexpected path—one that truly began when I met the love of my life and future husband, Scott L. Schwartz (Ocean’s 11, 12, 13). He believed in me before I fully believed in myself, always encouraging me to stand strong, trust my instincts, and never let anyone take advantage of me—something that’s incredibly important in this industry.

A pivotal moment came when I was working alongside Slade Smiley and Jo De La Rosa from The Real Housewives of Orange County. Slade said something that would unknowingly change my life: “You should be a publicist.” My response? “What is that?” (laughs). But once I researched it, everything clicked. I realized this wasn’t just a career path—it was my calling.

Being from the South, I’ve always had a deep-rooted passion for storytelling, talent development, and building meaningful connections. I quickly saw how the intersection of media, publicity, and live experiences could shape culture—and I knew I wanted to be part of that. That realization sparked what has now become a career spanning more than two decades across editorial, public relations, and marketing.

I built my foundation behind the scenes, learning every layer of the industry—from talent relations and production to media strategy and brand positioning. I took on every opportunity I could, including volunteer roles that helped bring entertainment media and celebrities to major events like the Latin Grammy Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards. Those experiences gave me not only credibility, but a deep understanding of how to create visibility in a competitive, fast-moving space.

With that knowledge, I founded Schwartz Entertainment Media Group (S.E.M.G.) in Atlanta with a clear vision: to build a full-service agency that doesn’t just support talent and brands—but truly elevates them. Today, S.E.M.G. has grown into a comprehensive firm known for producing high-impact events, securing strategic media placements in outlets like Entrepreneur, Inc.com, and Us Weekly, and developing campaigns that resonate both nationally and globally. Our services span editorial, digital, and web development, as well as large-scale event production—from red carpet galas to philanthropic initiatives.

Today, my focus is on scaling the business, mentoring the next generation of talent, and continuing to innovate at the intersection of media and entertainment. Giving back is also a core part of my mission. I’m deeply committed to supporting organizations like children’s hospitals worldwide, the Scott L. Schwartz Children’s Foundation, and Toys for Tots.

Throughout it all, what has guided me is simple: authenticity, relationships, and the ability to evolve—because in this industry, staying relevant isn’t optional, it’s everything. And no matter where this journey takes me, my roots remain my foundation. Being from the South shaped who I am, and my love for Atlanta has never changed—it will always be home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—but I don’t think any meaningful journey ever is. As a woman-owned business, there are always challenges, but I’ve never viewed them as obstacles—more as moments that sharpen you and strengthen your vision.

For me, the hardest parts weren’t the work itself. I love what I do. The real challenges came from navigating people—especially in an industry where ideas are currency. I’ve had situations where individuals would reach out under the guise of hiring my firm, ask for detailed strategies or concepts, and then disappear—only to execute those ideas on their own. I’ve also experienced team members being recruited away after we invested time and energy into building them.

But I’ve learned not to operate from frustration or fear. I’m a woman of faith, and I let that guide me in both life and business. I don’t hold onto negativity—I release it, pray on it, and keep moving forward. At the end of the day, no one can take what’s truly meant for you.

And honestly, those experiences have only reinforced my position in the industry. Today, I’m incredibly grateful to have built a business that thrives on referrals alone—I don’t even have to advertise. We’ve become a trusted resource, not just for clients, but for other firms who call on us for expertise and support. That, to me, is the greatest validation.

Success isn’t just about growth—it’s about resilience, integrity, and staying true to who you are through it all.

As you know, we’re big fans of Schwartz Entertainment Media Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Schwartz Entertainment Media Group (S.E.M.G.) is a full-service entertainment, media, and public relations firm based in Atlanta, with offices in every major city: NYC, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Houston and more coming soon… At our core, we specialize in elevating brands, talent, and experiences through strategic storytelling, high-impact media placement, and unforgettable live events.

What we do goes far beyond traditional PR. We create visibility with intention. That includes securing national and global media placements, producing red carpet events and luxury experiences, developing brand strategy, and offering full-scale digital and editorial services. Whether it’s a celebrity, entrepreneur, or company, we position our clients in a way that aligns with both their brand and their long-term vision.

What truly sets us apart is our relationships and our reputation. In this industry, access is everything—and we’ve spent decades building trusted connections across media, entertainment, and business. We’re not just pitching stories; we’re placing our clients in the right rooms, in front of the right audiences, at the right time. That level of strategy and execution is why many other firms actually come to us for guidance and support.

We’re also known for creating experiences that people remember. From high-profile red carpet galas to curated, invite-only events, we don’t just produce—we produce with purpose. Every detail is intentional, every moment is designed to amplify brand presence and media impact.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that we’ve built a company rooted in trust and results. We’ve grown almost entirely through referrals, which speaks volumes about the relationships we’ve cultivated and the work we consistently deliver. Our clients know that when they work with us, they’re getting more than a service—they’re gaining a strategic partner who is fully invested in their success.

What I want readers to know is this: we are a firm that understands both the art and the business of visibility. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all strategies. Everything we do is tailored, intentional, and designed to create a lasting impact. And above all, we lead with integrity, authenticity, and a commitment to excellence with a little “southern flair”—because that’s what builds not just brands, but legacies.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Being from Atlanta is truly an honor. It’s not just a big, busy city where people get lost—it has depth, character, and a genuine sense of Southern hospitality and charm. The friendships I built growing up are still part of my life today. Those are the kind of relationships where, no matter what, you know people will show up for you. That’s rare, and it’s something I’ve always cherished—Atlanta gives you that sense of family.
I’ve always had the best mom in the world who supported my dreams and goals and helped shape me into the woman I am today.

What I love most about Atlanta is its energy, diversity, and culture. It’s a city that embodies opportunity—where creativity, business, entertainment, and entrepreneurship all come together. There’s a unique spirit here where people support one another, collaborate, and genuinely want to see each other win. As a major hub for film, music, and media, it’s incredibly inspiring for someone in my industry. You can build something meaningful here while staying grounded in authenticity and community, which is not something every city offers.

Atlanta also carries a Southern charm that never fades. No matter how much the city grows, there’s still a warmth in how people connect and do business. That balance of hustle and heart is something I’ve always loved—and it’s a big part of who I am.

If I had to point out a downside, it would be the growing pains that come with success—traffic being at the top of the list. As the city continues to expand, infrastructure hasn’t always kept up, which can make getting around challenging at times. But that’s often the trade-off for being in a city that’s thriving and constantly evolving. And that is what they make Peachtree St. and Northside Drive for- to take back roads 😉

At the end of the day, there’s no place like Atlanta. No matter where life takes me, it will always be home. In Atlanta, relationships aren’t just connections—they’re lifelong. That’s what makes the city so special.
