Today we’d like to introduce you to Shena Crawford
Hi Shena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The idea for Atlanta Bath Company came 8 years ago from my personal frustration with the lack of variety in natural soaps. I wanted a product that was not only good for the skin but also different from the usual lemongrass and lavender options you see on store shelves. I was looking for something fresh, exciting, and effective—something that made self-care feel special. Taking my grandmother’s cherished soap recipe and reformulating it to make it more up to date.
That desire led me to start crafting my own soaps with unique scents like blueberry lemonade, strawberry shortcake and peach cobbler. These weren’t just skincare solutions; they were products that elevated the self-care experience. What started as a need for myself, turned into a business when I realized how many others were also craving something new and different in the natural skincare space.
Today, Atlanta Bath Company stands as a brand that challenges the ordinary and celebrates creativity in self-care. Every product is carefully formulated to deliver results while offering a sensory experience that feels luxurious and unique. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m proud to have built a company that reflects my vision for what skincare should be: natural, effective, and anything but ordinary.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey with Atlanta Bath Company has been anything but smooth, but every bump in the road has taught me valuable lessons and shaped the business into what it is today. One of the biggest challenges was starting out with limited resources. When you’re a small business, you have to wear many hats—product creator, marketer, customer service rep, and everything in between. Balancing it all while ensuring the quality of the products never wavered was no small feat.
Another struggle was breaking through in a competitive market. The beauty and skincare industry is saturated, and standing out among established brands can feel daunting. I had to get creative with how I marketed the brand, focusing on storytelling and building a personal connection with my customers. Showing them that Atlanta Bath Company wasn’t just another skincare line, but a brand with heart and a mission to redefine natural skincare, made all the difference.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Atlanta Bath Company, I create unique skincare products designed to resemble bakery products to enhance self-care routines and help people feel confident in their skin. What I’m most proud of is knowing that my products are not only addressing common skincare concerns but also encouraging my customers to prioritize themselves in their busy lives. It’s special to know that something I created can play a role in someone’s journey to feeling beautiful and confident.
What I think sets Atlanta Bath Company apart is the level of thought and care that goes into every product. Our products are unique and can’t be found on a shelf in any retail store. From formulating the perfect sugar scrub that adds realistic touches such as banana toppings, to designing packaging that feels fun and approachable, everything we do is intentional.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Atlanta is its vibrant energy and diversity. The city has a unique blend of cultures, and it’s an incredible place to experience different foods, music, and art. Whether it’s the thriving local businesses, the beautiful parks, or the events that celebrate Black culture and heritage, Atlanta feels like a city that’s constantly growing and evolving. As a business owner, I also appreciate the supportive community of entrepreneurs and creatives here who are always willing to collaborate and uplift one another.
On the flip side, what I like least about Atlanta is the traffic. As much as I love the city, the congestion can be overwhelming, especially during peak hours. It can be challenging to get around, and sometimes it feels like you spend more time stuck in traffic than actually enjoying the city. I think the city could benefit from improvements to public transportation and infrastructure to make commuting a little easier for everyone.”
