Inspiring Conversations with Yanely Acosta of Selah image llc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yanely Acosta.

Hi Yanely, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I actually started photography while volunteering at my local church on the Treasure Coast in Florida. I would take photos during events and special moments, and before long, friends and acquaintances started reaching out asking me to photograph their weddings, maternity sessions, and family milestones.

What started very organically through community and relationships slowly grew into something much bigger. Over the years, photography became more than just taking pictures for me, it became a way to tell stories and preserve meaningful moments for people in every season of life. From there, my business continued to grow through word of mouth, trust, and genuine connection with the families and couples I’ve had the honor of photographing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. When I first started, I was raising two children who were only six months old and six years old at the time, so learning how to balance motherhood while building a business was one of my biggest challenges.

I was also building my business in South Florida, where the photography industry is incredibly saturated and competitive. There were so many talented photographers in the area, so learning how to find my own voice and grow through word of mouth took time and consistency.

In 2023, my family and I moved to South Georgia, and that transition unexpectedly became such a blessing for my business. The slower pace, strong sense of community, and genuine connections here allowed my work to grow in a really meaningful way. Looking back, every challenge helped shape both me and my business into what it is today.

We’ve been impressed with Selah image llc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am primarily a family photographer, and that will always be at the heart of what I do. I photograph maternity, newborns, children, milestones, couples, and weddings, all the beautiful seasons and moments that make up people’s lives.

When I moved to South Georgia in 2023, I truly knew not a single person. Starting over in a brand-new place pushed me outside of my comfort zone in the best way possible. I began taking on photography jobs I had never really done before, including corporate and branding photography, simply because sometimes when you’re building from the ground up, you do what you have to do. Surprisingly, that challenge turned into something I genuinely love and now feel very confident in.

One of the biggest blessings in growing my business here has been connecting with my local Chamber of Commerce. They welcomed me so warmly, introduced me to people in the community, and helped create meaningful relationships and opportunities. I honestly cannot recommend joining your local Chamber enough for any small business owner.

What I hope people feel through my brand is connection and authenticity. Whether I’m photographing a newborn session, a wedding day, or a corporate event, my goal is always the same, to make people feel comfortable, seen, and genuinely cared for while creating images that preserve meaningful moments and tell a story.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is knowing that the work I do becomes part of people’s memories and legacies. There’s truly no feeling like seeing the joy and emotion people experience when they look through their photos and relive moments that meant so much to them.

I also find so much joy in seeing families proudly share the photographs I’ve taken on Facebook and social media. Seeing people post their images with such happiness and pride, while sharing their own personal stories and moments, is incredibly rewarding to me. Every family has a story, and being trusted to capture a small piece of that means more than I can explain.

Losing my grandfather recently made that feeling even more personal for me. Before he passed, I had always encouraged my family to take photos and document moments together. I was blessed to photograph my grandparents during their 50th wedding anniversary, and after his passing, those became some of the most recent photos we had of him, possibly the only professional portraits.

That experience reminded me why photography matters so deeply to me. Photos become more valuable with time. They freeze moments that we can never recreate, and one day they often become priceless reminders of the people we love most. Knowing that I get to give that gift to families is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
