We’re looking forward to introducing you to Katina Douglas. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Katina, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to share my personal story. For a long time, I was hesitant to open up because it felt too vulnerable. But over time, I’ve realized that my story has the power to inspire and help others who may be going through similar experiences. Now I see that sharing it isn’t just about me, it’s about connection, healing, and giving others permission to find strength in their own stories.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Katina Douglas, an artist and teacher who believes art is where healing begins. My work explores emotion and faith through abstract expression, each piece is a reflection of growth, grace, and freedom. What makes my story special is that I started painting later in life, turning pain into purpose, and now use my art to inspire both my students, admirers and collectors around the world.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
The people who saw me before I truly saw myself were often strangers, those who crossed my path without knowing my story, yet somehow recognized something in me that I hadn’t seen yet. Sometimes it’s the people who know nothing about you who can see you the most clearly. They spoke life into my dreams when I was still whispering them, and their light helped me recognize my own.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds of my life have been abandonment and sudden loss, experiences that left me feeling unsafe and unseen. But through my faith in God and the gift of art, I found my way to healing. Painting became my sanctuary, a place where I could release pain, rediscover peace, and transform what once felt heavy into something beautiful. Through color and creation, I learned to breathe again, to forgive, and to see purpose in my pain. My healing came through God’s grace and the freedom to create.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I would protect at all costs is moral integrity. It’s the foundation of who we are and how we move through the world. Integrity shapes our decisions, our relationships, and the legacy we leave behind. I strive to reflect that same honesty and authenticity in my art, creating from a place of truth, emotion, and faith. My work is a reminder that integrity isn’t just about what we say, but how we live, create, and treat others. No matter what changes around me, staying true to my values and doing what’s right, even when it’s hard, will always matter most.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope the story people tell about me is that I was vulnerable enough to share my journey so that others could find healing in theirs. I want people to remember that I used my art to show that healing is possible, that creativity can be a path to peace. I hope they’ll say my work helped them discover a new way to heal through art, and that when they look at my paintings, they see my growth, my faith, and the way I healed right before their eyes.
