Ke Sinatra of Phenix City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Ke Sinatra and have shared our conversation below.

Ke, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is waking up praising God. I then get my morning started by getting my child up and dressed for school. After being attentive to my child I’ll grab breakfast and exercise and start writing music, or hit the studio.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ke Sinatra. I’m an upcoming rapper, from Phenix City, Alabama. I write a story and paint pictures about certain experiences in my life thru lyrics. What makes me unique is my sound, my cadence, my flow and wordplay, I am very destined about the things I work hard toward. Music has always been an outlet for me. It help me express my feelings and thoughts out loud vocally thru instrumentals. I come from a low income family. I grew up in some project named Frederick Douglas Apartments. Seeing the ruggish, treacherous lifestyle I was living, gave me the idea to want to rap. I had various topics to talk about because of my surroundings. I knew I one day wanted to escape reality and become big in the music game so I chose to become an artist. I can rap and sing. Singing came first. I was in a choir growing up so I used to be the lead singer. As time went by, at the age of 6 I started rapping, yet I was still singing up until like high school. I’ve won plenty talent shows with both talents. The more I became older and stepped into my womanhood, I knew I wanted to rap, it was more about my deliverance. I felt like rapping helped expressed my feelings more. Ke Sinatra itself if a brand. When I walk out the door everyday I have to act as if I’m a brand. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will either. I market my name on shirts, songs, posters, flyers, as well as other different items etc. anything to get my name seen and out there. I’m currently working on a mixtape to give to my fans. With me being a perfectionist, it’s already done. I’m mainly just going over songs that I have curated to polish them up more. I will give the world what it’s been missing very soon. Don’t forget the name, I am a force to be reckoned with. The moment I get my foot in the door, it’s go time!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed as a child that I had to grow up go to school, then college and work for the rest of my life. I no longer believe in that type of lifestyle. You can be anything you want to be whether you go to college or not. Also, everyone isn’t meant to be 9-5 workers. Some people are born enterprenuers.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that held me back the most in life is my environment. Being in the same city my whole life and not seeing many people make it out scarred me. I then said I had to jump out on faith because a try beats a failure.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire Nicki Minaj. No matter what obstacles she faced, she pushed thru even when she was up against the odds.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
I think I have been playing it safe too long. I’m born to shine bright, I feel like I’ve been dimming my own light on who I am as a person period. What I mean by that is, limiting myself to what all I can do instead of just doing it!
