Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Awona Love of Atlanta

Awona Love shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Awona, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
In my short career as a Program Administrator recently, I was promoted from a Senior Probation Officer for almost 12 years. One day, I was terminated with no explanation because I was innovative, consistently rewarding progress, and stern when violations occurred. While constantly scrutinized out loud for being fair, firm, and consistent, I was praised silently by text and personal phone calls. Of course, you should know I was deeply confused, but I knew who and why I was there, and it was to complete the mission for the people I was there to serve.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My personal community engagement include various organizations in which I am passionate about. Specifically, as a member of the DeKalb County Residential Youth Diversion Center advisory board I conduct bible study and small groups with detained youth. On the other hand, through my foundation (SaSumthing Inc.) I sponsor families during the holiday season. In addition, SaSumthing donates care packages to victims of sexual abuse as a reminder that they are never alone. Furthermore, SaSumthing Inc. proudly take missions all over the world through annual mission trips. These trips are meaningful to us because they expose us to third world countries and their unique circumstances. Lastly, a session of Life Coaching services are provided to all victims who partner with SaSumthing Inc.

My new found joy is working with Autism elementary and high students therefore, daily I substitute in one of my local counties school districts. This joy came from one of God’s greatest gift to me which is one of my grandsons who is Autistic, currently he’s 7 years old and a honor roll scholar, pitcher for his baseball team, basketball player and a rising football and soccer player. The beginning was very rough but through my daughter’s extensive research and the advocating from my sister Angie all is well now. Therefore, now I really want Autism not to be scary it should be better embraced to enhance and build upon their gifts.

Presently, because of my faith my sister and I step out on faith and are building transitional homes to become the interrupters of homelessness and illiteracy. So, I introduce to you HE is in the CTR. Inc. based currently in Atlanta Georgia prayerfully expanding to New Orleans Louisiana and Detroit Michigan

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My single father and his teachings raised me; I still use them as guidance today. My father was always stern and firm. An excuse was just what it was, an excuse that only seemed logical to the messenger, never to him. My father felt as though excuses were for the sorrowful and the lazy. I was taught at a very young age to work for what I want; therefore, no one could ever hold anything over my head. So, my father instilled the value of hard work in my household at a very early age. “If you don’t want anything, don’t do anything.”

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
My sufferings taught me that physically, to the world, my circumstances appeared and resembled suffering; however, I was immediately reminded of God’s promises to me (us) that HE will never leave or forsake me (us). Therefore, what looked like suffering never was. I was in God’s hands all along, and at the time, I learned that God was just building my faith, and what I feared never happened.

Success could never have taught me the importance of staying humble. To serve the population that I have been missioned to serve, it’s important that I truly know their sufferings, and the only way I will know is to have had real experiences.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends will tell you that family and love keep me thriving. Love matters most to me, and I have vowed to spread it with everyone I come in contact with. I am always amazed by the beautiful souls God places in my path.

Last but certainly not least my friends know that I am high strung on living out your dreams. A radio DJ is my alter ego, so: Krack’in Skullzs LLC was created to give us a platform just to have fun while educating the public on topics not so desired. This company is owned by SummaHeat ( myself) , HellKat ( sister) and Van Vleckk ( brother).

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?

HE is in the CTR Inc. wealth may not show its flourishing until 7-10 years from now which is perfectly ok. This company is truly built off of love creating a resourceful lifestyle for our children and grandchildren. Being single parents having similar experiences truly knowing what its like to receive a helping hand.

The organization will allow us to express our gratitude by vowing to interrupt homelessness and illiteracy, providing luxury transitional housing, and programming with a significant services that will fast track those in need.
