Becky Kimmons shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Becky, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity wins every time. I strongly believe in doing the right thing for the right reason.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re Cale and Becky Kimmons. Pleasant Union Farm is our hard work dream – we learn every day that following your dream isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.
Pleasant Union Farm is the joining of Cale’s passion for farming and our desire for service and intentionality. What started as a simple barn wedding venue has evolved into a farm-to-table destination for authentic wedding experiences, Farm-to-table dinners, u-pick evenings and more.
We’re focusing our efforts on our Farm-to-table wedding experience that really prioritizes couples enjoying the season they’re in, connecting with each other and their guests at the wedding. Menus featuring seasonal, locally grown flavors and florals grown locally (both on the farm and by other local flower farms) help ground the celebration in the moment.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents and Cale have taught me the most about work. They all show up, put in the effort and push through obstacles. Farming and building a business both take a lot of determination. The initial excitement and motivation will wear off long before you reach the end. You have to keep pushing, even in moments you may not be as excited about it.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The struggles we’ve encountered have taught me to ask for help – that I can’t do it all on my own. For most people, you can only get so far on your own.
Thankfully, Cale and I have created Pleasant Union Farm together so we have that support system. Our parents continue to be a huge support system for us, also. When it’s blueberry season, you can find multiple generations in the field harvesting.
It also continues to push me toward God. I need the constant reminder that I can’t do everything, but He can. It’s a much greater success when it’s something He leads and provides.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I was raised in a Christian family, so my relationship with Christ and the foundation that brings is something I often take for granted.
It’s what drives what I see as truth, how I act and react, and what I see as success. Living a full life, investing into relationships is much more of a success for me than a number in my bank account.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Thankfully, I think our customers would miss the relationship. I love that the wedding venue and events like our Farm-to-Table dinners introduce us to people, and then they become long-term customers and relationships through the farmers market, blueberry season and more.
We love getting to see couples and their families every year when they come for a blueberry u-pick or we see them at the Canton Farmer’s Market.
