Jeannine Burgess shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jeannine, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Spending time in nature. I love walking in the woods, listening to the birds, and just sitting in the sunshine, breathing in the fresh air. It’s such a simple thing, but helps me stay grounded.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jeannine Burgess, I’m an artist, yoga teacher, and lover of the mystery of life.
Over the last decade I’ve been exploring mandala and Visionary Art, challenging not only my technical skills, but also my with art as a healing modality.
I’ve recently published an insect oracle deck, featuring 57 original paintings that I have been steadily collecting over the last 4 years.
What makes this work special to me is how it invites both beauty and meaning to coexist, offering guidance through the patterns of the natural world. This has been the culmination of many years of curiosity and reverence for life’s hidden connections.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I always knew I was an artist. Creativity was always something my soul craved, and thankfully, I mostly ignored the voices that said it wasn’t a meaningful pursuit.
I have always been curious, finding magic in color, pattern, and the natural world. I was always sketching, collecting little treasures from outdoors, and imagining connections between things. That creative instinct has stayed with me, even as life added layers of expectation, and it continues to guide the work I do today.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been many times I felt like giving up. The closest was when I nearly walked away from art entirely. In trying to be practical, to earn a living and follow a “sensible” career path, I became deeply disconnected from my true self. What I’ve learned is that the more you try to suppress your soul’s expression, the stronger it returns. Art has a way of calling you back to who you really are.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I strive to be fully authentic wherever I am. While the way I express myself may shift depending on the space or the people around me, at my core I am always the same person. What you see publicly is a true reflection of who I am privately.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop doubting myself. I’d let go of imposter syndrome and step forward with greater confidence in my voice and my work. I think I’d take life a little lighter, worrying less about how things are perceived, while also sharpening my focus and intention on what truly matters.
