Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kenna Porter of Atlanta & Southeast

We recently had the chance to connect with Kenna Porter and have shared our conversation below.

Kenna, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My son! I had my son 6 months ago and he lights up my world! He’s the happiest little guy and he brings my husband the most joy!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kenna Porter, a 25 year old wife, mother, and wedding photographer!

I started this career in college, looking for a way to make a little bit of extra money during the pandemic. I have had a camera since the age of 12 and would often bring it to school events, outings, dates, etc… I started to take the education of photography more seriously and invested in better gear as I grew my business.

I have owned my photography business for 4 years now and shot over 75 weddings. I’m currently working on switching my editing style to fit more luxury weddings and events. I’m extremely excited for this next chapter of my business.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Maybe not so much “work” as work ethic… but my Grandfather.

My grandfather was an extremely hard working man in everything he did and he always taught me the value in working for what you have. He taught me the sense of pride that comes from a job well done and the rewarding feeling of accomplishing things on your own.

I always looked up to him and admired the life he created for his family through his strong work ethic.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Oh there’s so many things I’d say… but to start, I’d probably tell her to give herself grace.

Life is hard. People aren’t perfect. Mistakes are bound to be made. But I wish I would’ve allowed myself more grace growing up. I’d tell my younger self to reflect on the things that truly matter in life… like relationships, God, education, character building…

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I know my friends would say that my family & friends really matter to me. And they’d be right…

I care so much about my relationships with others. I am probably a people pleaser, to a fault. But nothing makes me happier than getting to make my friends and family smile, whether it’s checking in with a daily text, writing them a note, buying a coffee, or gifting them something I know they’d like… It’s a love language of mine for sure…

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
100% yes.

My husband says I try too hard at most things I do. It’s become an inside joke at this point.

I will give my all to any and everything I do. Whether it be a job, a hobby, motherhood, baking… I will try hard and if I fail, I will try again until I succeed.

God asks us to give him our best and I truly try to live that way. I give my best efforts in all that I do, whether I receive the credit or praise for it.
