We’re looking forward to introducing you to Keonta Coleman. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Keonta, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m proud of the confidence I’m building in myself and in my art. For years, I let fear and opinions hold me back from sharing my photography and videography. But I’m done hiding. I’m trusting my eye, embracing my creativity, and stepping fully into the artist I’ve always been. This is just the beginning and my work will be seen.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m from Virginia, a place full of talent that often goes unseen. That’s what pushed me to Atlanta, GA, where I spent seven years growing as an actor and discovering my love for photography and videography. I found my lane in event photography, capturing conferences, fashion shows, and so much more. My journey with the camera began back in Virginia while working for an independent film company, and it’s taken me farther than I ever imagined. I’ve shot some of the biggest science conferences in the world and worked with international brands all from following the passion I once overlooked.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a track and field star throughout high school and college. But that quickly changed in the real world where I had to figure life out because sports was done in my life. That is one of the daily struggles for young black male athletes. I had to find myself and what I was good at. That came behind the lens along with acting.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Not ever having my father in my life. Over the last couple years Ive found myself a little depressed because I honestly felt not wanted. My sibling and mother struggled with that over the years. But going to therapy helped me out a lot.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to becoming a successful photographer/videographer where that is my main job. Even getting to the point where I can send other photographers/videographers out to jobs for my business and I’m still able to get paid. It’s all about being able to set your standard and put others on. Life is all about growth.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes because most of your support will come from the others not the ones you expect it to come from.
