Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Malik Bailey of East Atlanta

We recently had the chance to connect with Malik Bailey and have shared our conversation below.

Malik, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of the mental fortitude and moral standing that I have built through years in this industry. I can roll with the punches and I’ll never slight a peer for the sake of getting ahead.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Malik, I go by MVLIK HD in the entertainment industry. I am an artist, producer, engineer, writer, A&R, Etc etc if it involves music! I’ve been creating music for about 17 years, performing it in some capacity for 15 years, and putting together shows and building stages for almost 10 years. My story’s gone a lot of different directions over the years, but the main theme has always been that I encapsulate music and want to be around it or involved in it at all times. I am currently in a brainstorming phase for how I want to present the music I’ve been creating personally and am hopefully releasing a new fully original project top of 2026.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mother and my sisters without a doubt. Growing up military, my dad was gone most of the time serving his country. That left raising the only boy in the house up to my mom and my sisters. I’m sure they had their hands full, but I think i turned out alright.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Definitely. I’m learning that those moments happen a little more often the further you get in age. Seeing something that you put effort into not work out makes you question if putting in the effort was worth it or not in the first place. I’ve been trying to shift that mindset and remind myself that any effort I put into anything comes from a sacred place and is always worth it when the intent was pure.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m me anywhere I go and anywhere I’m seen. Whether you’re getting the “complete” me is the question. Some settings call for different parts of my personality to take the wheel and sometimes it’s better to withhold some energy. In the least “Split” way possible😂

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I see the forgivable side in a lot of people in situations where others wouldn’t. Some people mistake it as giving people too many chances or being a pushover in the face of disrespect, but I just see it as having enough bandwidth and comfort in my own energy to put in the extra work and understand where a person is coming from even if they’re doing something that rubs me the wrong way. It’s definitely a quality that’s bitten me in the ass before though.
