Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Mz. Leebra Clark

We recently had the chance to connect with Mz. Leebra Clark and have shared our conversation below.

Leebra, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is most important to me because I feel like having integrity is about being truthful, accountable, respectful, and consistent.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Mz. Leebra. I am an indie author from Atlanta, GA. I have been writing since I can remember, but my first book, or when I signed my first publishing contract with a publishing company was around 2012/2013, and I never looked back.

Currently, I’m self-published. And have released 4 books so far this year. I’m aiming to meet or exceed this goal next year too!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful is probably around elementary school age. I would walk myself to school in the mornings and that brought a sense of independence and power. We didn’t stay far, so it wasn’t a long walk, but I really felt like I was a big kid doing big and powerful things.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
What fear has held me back? There is a fear of success. I have so many ideas for a lot of things, and at times I plan things out to a point to where I know that if I put the plans in motion, I’m going to be successful, but then there’s that fear in the back of my head that says…yeah you are going to succeed, but at a rate to which you won’t be able to handle and you’re going to overwhelm yourself and crash. So…I pull back. I do just enough to get the job done without giving it that 100% because I’m scared that it’s going to take me to a situation, environment, etc. that I just won’t be ready for.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One of my current works in progress is a project I’m deeply committed to, no matter how long it takes. It’s emotionally layered, and I’m intentional about taking my time with it. I already have the pitch deck ready, because I know this story will translate powerfully to television.
Once the book is complete, the way I’m structuring it will make it easily adaptable for the screen, with the potential to unfold across multiple seasons.

What makes this project even more exciting is that there’s nothing like it in the TV space right now, nothing that’s ever landed this particular emotional truth or perspective. That’s why I’m not rushing. I’m building something historic, and I’m in it for the long haul.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Could I give everything my best, even if no one ever praised me for it? Yes. In many ways, that’s exactly what I’m doing now. I write to unclutter my mind. I write because the ideas come constantly, and I need to put them somewhere. I write because it’s my therapy. It makes me feel better.
Knowing I’ve created these characters and truly brought them to life on the page is enough. Even if no one ever reads my books, I’m okay. I’m okay because I’m writing for me. It brings me joy to look back and see what my imagination has made.
So the short answer is yes.
