Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Stefanie Newell

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Stefanie Newell. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Stefanie, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I usually start my morning with an affirmation. From there, I follow a set routine where I respond to YouTube comments and emails. After that, depending on the day and my current projects, I’ll either create content for YouTube and Instagram, write, meet with clients, or do developmental editing for my editing clients. Midway through the day, I take a break to work out for about an hour, eat lunch, and browse TikTok and Instagram before getting back to work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a writing coach and developmental editor. I work with first-time nonfiction authors to help them write, publish, and market their books. Once a draft is complete, I provide developmental editing where I give feedback on structure, pacing, tone, and clarity, and answer questions like, ‘Is my writing good enough?’ and ‘Am I ready to publish?’ What makes my work interesting is the clients I meet. Each has a unique story, and I get to help shape those ideas into books readers love. Right now, I’m supporting clients through coaching and developmental editing, and I also just republished the second edition of my first novel, The Buzz: When Celebrity Gossip Goes Wrong.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My mom. She passed in 2017, but she was always my biggest cheerleader and support system, encouraging me to go after my dreams. As a kid, I was always creating, writing, singing, rapping, and dancing, and she nurtured that side of me by exposing me to the arts in different ways.

Over time, that creative energy grew into book writing and screenplays. One of the most special parts of that journey was getting to write a book with her, which gave me the chance to help her fulfill one of her own dreams. As a writer herself, she understood my passion on a deeper level, and that relationship shaped much of who I am today because I saw her not only as my mother but also as my best friend.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
In business, there are so many things you have to revisit and be open to changing because technology is constantly evolving. Recently, I had to change my mind about expanding my platform to TikTok. At first, it felt like just another place where I’d have to make content, but after listening to my son, who encouraged me to try it, it turned out to be a good decision for my business.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, what you see is really me. I’m conversational, very inquisitive, and I love to hear people’s stories. Much of what my audience sees of me is through YouTube videos or emails, so it doesn’t always show the full extent of who I am. Because I’m always teaching, I think I come across as very serious online. But I also love to crack jokes and laugh, and I bring that same energy into the way I connect with people.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am absolutely doing what I was born to do. While I didn’t know as a child that my career would be a writing coach and developmental editor, I did know that I wanted to do something creative related to writing. Today, I get to use that passion to help other people bring their ideas to life, which feels like the work I was always meant to do.
