Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tanya Lacourse of Midtown

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tanya Lacourse. Check out our conversation below.

Tanya, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Who are you learning from right now?
I have been listening to a few Buddhist podcasts and the inspirational work of Peter Crone lately. Diving into a more spiritual dimension and doing inside work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’d love to. I have had a thing for homes and all things interiors since I was a little girl. After following a few unfulfilling career paths, I started Violet Marsh Interiors in 2017. Violet Marsh is an Atlanta-based residential design studio with projects throughout the US, dedicated to creating collected, comfortable spaces that feel as good as they look. Our passion is to design homes that are personal and layered, using a warm and authentic style. We work with clients to craft functional interiors, with a special focus on custom kitchens, luxurious bathrooms, and statement lighting that elevates the everyday. We believe a home should be a truly nurturing environment, and we’re here to make that a reality.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Oh I love this question!! When I think back to who I was before I was six years old, I was incredibly energetic, social, and creative. I loved singing and putting on plays, riding my bike, swimming, having adventures in the woods, and chumming around with family and friends. I was a tad bossy too and a little bit of a director.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
My grandmother was my lifejacket. She was my father’s mom and was the kindest, most gentle, all loving grandmother a person could have. My relationship with her was so special and I always felt total and complete protection, loyalty and support with her by my side. I had a unique experience where she lived up the street from us for most of my childhood so I spent a lot of time with her.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to think that people were more or less the same and I see that very differently now. I think there are a million variations and experiences that make us all pretty unique. We may fundamentally want the same things but how we express and go about getting those things can range tremendously. And really, that is what keeps life interesting and creative.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when my work is done, the house is clean, dinner is in the oven, and I have nothing to do other than cuddle my pups.
