Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Bennett.

Felicia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I owned and operated a business with my ex for ten years in December 2015. I said, “it’s a wrap” and started my own brand based on what I contributed to the business we built together in Atlanta. I added my own twist to things. I’ve been in business since January 2016. I allowed a man to control my life and he financially, physically and mentally abused me. He made me believe that I needed him and I was worthless without him. My message to young women and ladies is never ever leave your life in a man’s hands never quit your dreams to help conquer his.

I was a biology major at Virginia Union University and decided not to pursue my medical schooling when I got married at the tender age of 21. I specialize in healthy eating on the go while creating a family vibe and flavorful food! What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve overcome everything thrown at me to keep me down! The way I’ve dealt with adversity in business and life. The way I’ve used my pain to get paid! I’m proud that my brand represents so much more than what’s seen’ it represents strength! It represents resilience! I love providing people with fresh healthy options that they enjoy! Nothing about my brand is commercialized and even once we are a franchise we will always set ourselves apart from the masses by keeping that family vibe within the company!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all!!!

Some of the struggles along the way have been having to raise children alone with no help financially or physically while trying to run a business alone! Trying to find people to depend on to help you grow the brand who are just as passionate as you is difficult as well.

My advice to any young woman that is beginning her journey is to JUST DO IT! Don’t think twice about it, go for it! I started my brand with no money, a couple of family members invested in me I owe them my life because I left my marriage with NOTHING not even a place to stay! But I was determined! So to all of the women that think it’s impossible it’s NOT!

Don’t be afraid, have faith! God has provided for me every step of the way even when I didn’t see it as being possible!

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think women are in a position in today’s world to make more of a difference than in the past and even now women of color are making more of an impact in today’s world in business and we are making a difference in a positive way more than ever.
