Today we’d like to introduce you to Miya Robinson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Miya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been interested in teeth & being in the dental field. This year, I decided after I graduated to become a dental assistant, I want to branch off and start doing teeth whitening. I took a class to become a Certified Teeth Whitening Specialist in May, and ever since then I been highly favored. It was hard at first, I had to basically retrain my self everything because it was a lot of details & information that was left out my training. I started working at Cut Creators in Queen pin suite for a couple of months doing teeth whitening. I expanded my services and decide to take a Tooth Gem class with @kokoacademy, and now I’m a Certified Tooth Gem Tech. One day, I asked my boyfriend to help me pay my booth rent & he ends up just getting me my own suite. My business has basically taken off ever since. I have been extremely blessed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started Teeth Whitening, I got into a car accident. I was very depress. I didn’t know what I was going to do, because I didn’t have transportation anymore. I went days without seeing my son, due to having school. I also work at Comcast so I stayed at my brother’s house Mon-Friday just to make sure I can get to work everyday. My brother Beezy end up helping me buy 50 100% activated organic teeth whitening charcoals. I sold all 50 for $25 & invested in my business. I doubted my self a lot because things weren’t going great. When I was working in queen pin, I use to just pay booth rent some weeks and not have any clients. I did a $50 special one week & got booked up every day. I bought a new car in a month of from me doing the special. I never gave up because, I knew God was just building me to be a strong-minded woman no matter what I was going through. No matter what invest, it worth it especially in your own business. Your business represents you, so you always gotta make sure you invest to make sure things are how you want it. I never gave up,no matter how bad things got. Things take time, it’s always a rainbow after every storm. Just always believe in yourself.

Please tell us about Million Dolla Smile by Miya Lee.
I’m a Certified Teeth Whitening & Tooth Gem specialist. Teeth whitening is a char side cosmetic procedure where you sit under a led blue light & I apply hydrogen peroxide to the surface of my client’s teeth. The process of teeth whitening lightens the color of the teeth. Teeth whitening can be achieved by either changing the intrinsic color or by removing and controlling the formation of extrinsic stains. I’m a Tooth Gem Tech, where I apply gems (100% swarovski crystal) to my client’s teeth using a bonding agent. It’s quick, easy, & painless. Here at Million Dolla Smile, I make sure my clients have a wonderful life changing experience when they leave. I do offer training for both services at a affordable price.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I feel that people look down on women especially black women in this century. People usually just judge just because, the color of your skin or even just being young. As a woman, you have to be strong always no matter what race you are. I always tell myself “yeah, she do teeth whitening & tooth gems but they’re not me”. I don’t envy anyone. I really would like to help young females like myself help start a business one day.
