Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniya Ortiz.
Hi Aniya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I used to tell people I was going to be a CEO, but honestly, I didn’t really know what that meant. My older sister told me a CEO was someone who owned a business, and from then on I would just say it. At the time, I wasn’t dreaming about entrepreneurship I just liked the idea.
As I got older, that simple statement started to take on real meaning. In 2024, I found myself drawn to event planning, networking, and creating opportunities for people to connect. What started as an idea quickly became something bigger. My sister encouraged me to pursue it, and by October of that year I had completed my first portfolio shoot. Since then, the support from my family, friends, and community has helped me continue building Better Together into something I’m incredibly proud of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all, but I wouldn’t change the journey.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have strong support from my family, but one of the biggest challenges has been navigating an industry that I was still learning. Starting a business at a young age comes with a lot of questions, self-doubt, and moments where you wonder if you’re making the right decisions.
There have also been financial lessons, learning experiences, and moments where I realized I didn’t fully understand the resources available to me. But every challenge has become an opportunity to grow. The obstacles haven’t stopped me they’ve simply taught me how to become a better business owner and leader.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Better Together specializes in event coordination, networking experiences, creative direction, and public relations-focused opportunities for entrepreneurs and creatives.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how much we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time.
During the summer of 2025, I balanced working as a daycare teacher while organizing and supporting multiple events throughout the season. Between planning meetings, vendor coordination, rehearsals, networking events, and community markets, there was always something happening.
That season taught me how much I genuinely love bringing people together and creating experiences that leave a lasting impact. Seeing people make connections, discover new businesses, and support one another made all the hard work worthwhile.
I think what sets me apart is my willingness to learn and put myself in rooms where I can grow.
I’ve only been building Better Together for a relatively short time, but I’ve spent some time knowing that I wanted to work in public relations, events, and community building. Because of that, I’m constantly looking for opportunities to learn from people with more experience than me.
Rather than pretending to know everything, I embrace being a student. I believe growth comes from staying curious, asking questions, and continuously investing in yourself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
My faith has played a significant role in both my personal life and my business journey.
My mom has always said, “I don’t believe in luck—I believe in God,” and that’s something I’ve carried with me. Looking back, there have been so many moments where things unfolded in ways I never could have planned myself.
As a young entrepreneur, there have been times when I’ve questioned myself, struggled with uncertainty, or wondered what direction to take. My faith has helped me stay grounded through those moments. I truly believe God has guided me to where I am today and continues to open doors, provide opportunities, and remind me to trust the process even when I can’t see the full picture.
