Life & Work with April Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Brown.

Hi April, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well I’m Mobile, AL and I moved to ATL on a wing and a pray. I was living in ATL six years ago and told myself that I would never come back. God surely had a different plan. I was traveling to ATL and Houston once a month in 2022 because I knew I reached my limits in my hometown of Mobile, AL. I recently meet my Husband in July 2022 and 46 days later (yes 46 days later we got married. He was located in Augusta, GA and said if you move to Houston, I would make a way. I said Nawl you don’t have to I’m coming to Atlanta, GA. Lol. So I decided to move my whole world to ATL. With my mother, two sisters, and a great clientele here, I knew my transition wouldn’t be so hard. I didn’t feel that I had a purpose in ATL when I was here six years ago but this time around, I know that I can make a big change and a difference in the city of Atlanta this go round so I made the Georgia peach the sweetest peach and called this new place HOME.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So has it been a smooth road so far… Yes. The reason I say yes is because I knew I couldn’t fall this go-round. My mindset, my vision, my purpose were all on the line and I wasn’t willing to give it up this time. We all have struggles in anything we do but I honestly don’t look at them as struggles. I like a little challenge because if I get to comfortable, then that means I’m not doing anything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So as I stated before my name is April B but my hair name is Slaughterhousehair. I have been a licensed stylist for 18 years. I specialize in weave and hair loss clients. I am known for taking 28 pcs of hair and making it look like it has grown from your scalp babe. Even tho I have mastered the short weave method to a Tee, the world has giving me a new name as the Mullet Girl. No, I am not the one that has come up with the style but I’m surely the one that has bought it back with a modern twist. I have done over 150 mullets so far since Oct 2022 and I can say that is surely a world record.

What I would mostly say I am proud of is my faith. So many days I could have easily given up, quit, thrown in the towel but I kept going. The hardest task is not doing the job but getting up to do it.

What set me apart from the world is that in my head IM UNTOUCHABLE. I know who I am, I know who I’m becoming, and I’m an alien superstar, hehe 😜. Yes, there are so many ppl that are amazing and good at the same things I do but I’m my only competition. I thrive to be different, look like none other, think the impossible, and just be unique.

What were you like growing up?
Babe April was the little go-getter. I always like being in the light. I was always doing a fundraiser or running for Queen in schools, I was part of the events in church, just always busy. As a young kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian (still do to this day) so I have a lot of pets but going off to school was an option but I had my first child at 17. I could have went to college but I needed to stay home and raise my daughter so I picked my talent and hair it was. Even at the age of 17, I had my first child and yet I was still able to shine. My amazing parents always made sure I was doing things to keep this light going. My personality has always been to where I never meet strangers. From a young girl to now, my personality is 90% happy.
