Life & Work with Ben Tone of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Tone.

Hi Ben, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I started Tone Production, the vision was simple — great stories deserve great visuals. I’ve always been passionate about filmmaking and creative storytelling, and I wanted to build something that gave businesses and brands a real way to connect with their audience through video.

I started small. One camera, a lot of determination, and a genuine belief that if you do good work and treat people right, the rest follows. What I didn’t expect was how much that philosophy would become the foundation of everything we built.

Over time, the company grew — not through big marketing campaigns or outside investment, but through repeat clients, referrals, and long-term relationships. People trusted us, came back, and brought others with them. That word of mouth became our biggest driver of growth — and eventually brought us to cities like Atlanta, where we’ve built some of our strongest client relationships.

Today, Tone Production is a full-service video production and photography company operating across 25 cities in the South, Southwest, and Midwest. We work with businesses across industries — from healthcare and hospitality to corporate brands and global names like Grey Goose, Tabasco, KFC, and Oracle. We handle everything from concept to final delivery — commercial campaigns, drone footage, brand films, social media content, event coverage, and more.

But honestly, the thing I’m most proud of isn’t the client list or the cities. It’s the culture we’ve built — a team that genuinely cares about the people we work with and approaches every project like it matters. Because it does.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road — and I think that’s honestly what shaped Tone Production into what it is today.

The creative industry is incredibly competitive. When you’re starting out, one of the hardest things is simply being taken seriously. There are countless companies and freelancers offering similar services, and I realized early on that owning good cameras wasn’t enough. Building trust, proving consistency, and showing clients that we could deliver at a professional level every single time — that took time and a lot of showing up.

Another challenge was figuring out how to grow without losing what made us good in the first place. As demand increased and we started expanding into new cities — including Atlanta — I was very conscious of not wanting clients to feel like they were just another project on a schedule. Scaling a service business without losing the personal touch is genuinely hard, and it’s something we still think about every day.

What helped us push through most of those challenges was simply listening. Before a camera ever gets picked up, we spend time really understanding what a client needs, what they’re worried about, and what success looks like for them. A lot of people find the production process intimidating — being on camera, coordinating a shoot, trusting someone with their brand. We work hard to make that feel comfortable and collaborative from the start.

Looking back, the struggles taught me that in this industry, equipment and technical skill are the baseline. What actually separates companies is relationships, trust, and the ability to genuinely understand people.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Tone Production, we specialize in professional video production and photography services that help businesses, brands, and individuals tell their stories in a way that actually connects with people.

Our services cover the full production process — from concept development and scriptwriting all the way through filming, editing, color grading, sound design, and final delivery. On any given week we might be shooting a commercial campaign for a national brand, capturing drone footage over a city skyline, producing corporate training videos, or creating social media content for a local business. We handle it all in-house, which gives our clients a seamless, consistent experience from start to finish.

In terms of what we’re known for — honestly, it’s as much about the experience as it is the final product. A lot of people come into the production process feeling uncertain. They’re not used to being on camera, they’re not sure what to expect, and they’re trusting us with something that represents their business. We take that seriously. We communicate constantly, involve clients at every stage, and work hard to make the whole process feel collaborative rather than transactional.

The past few months have been especially exciting. We’ve been growing faster than ever — expanding into new states, opening new locations, and waking up every day to new inquiries from businesses and brands we haven’t worked with yet. It’s a reminder that the demand for authentic, high-quality visual content is only going in one direction. What I’m most proud of is how much of our growth has come through referrals and repeat clients. That means more to me than any award or milestone, because it reflects trust. When someone enjoys working with us enough to recommend us to a colleague or come back for another project — that’s the real measure of what we’re doing right.

What sets us apart is the combination of cinematic quality, genuine storytelling, and the way we treat people. Those three things together are what keep clients coming back.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Honestly, one of my favorite memories is simply watching movies with my family. There was something about gathering around the screen together, getting lost in a story, feeling every emotion the filmmaker intended you to feel — I didn’t have the vocabulary for it back then, but I think that’s where my love for visual storytelling was born. Looking back, it makes a lot of sense that I ended up doing what I do. Film has a way of connecting people, and I think that’s still at the core of everything we create at Tone Production.
