Today we’d like to introduce you to Camonte’ (Monte) Woods.
Hi Camonte’ (Monte), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Camonte’ also known as Monte. I’m originally from Baltimore, MD and have been living in Atlanta, GA for 7 years now. For me, what drew me to Atlanta is the fact that Atlanta is Unapologetically BLACK. I love being able to hit the city and see MY PEOPLE! Here in Atlanta I currently work in the hospitality industry as an operations manager and I’m also a realtor. I absolutely love what I do simply because of the networking. Atlanta is all about who you know and being able to mix with so many different people on a day to day basis is amazing for me. Outside of work I enjoy going to different restaurants/longes throughout Atlanta, I love to travel, big on fashion and apart of the Ballroom/Kiki Ballroom seen within the LGBTQ+ Community. I’ve been walking balls since 2013 in NYC. I love the creativity you’re able to express within ballroom. It’s also a great opportunity to meet/mentor people who’s finding their way in this lifestyle and need that extra guidance. In ballroom I do go by the Legendary Overall Mother Monte/Camille Marciano . I have house kids literally all over the world. I feel the biggest part of getting to where I am now is having the drive to work hard for what you want and also you have to have the personality. You never know who you will run into in Atlanta and you never know who knows who so my best advice to anyone out there is to be Kind to EVERYONE. Don’t chase after what the next has, instead be true to you and it will all fall in place.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning things were hard. I applied many places, attended many job fairs. I met my mentor in hospitality in 2019 and that when things took off for me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an operations manager for a hotel brand. I travel around to struggling properties to help raise scores and better train agents. In addition, I also travel to new opening hotels to train and get the hotel started. I have worked within hospitality sales and my biggest accomplishment within that role was generating half a million dollars in revenue within my first 6 months.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My hunger for better.
