Life & Work with Chrissie Forlie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrissie Forlie.

Chrissie Forlie

Hi Chrissie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Cosplay: As a child, I was involved in years of dance lessons, piano lessons, and multiple musical theater productions. I was also very much a Halloween girl. I loved dressing up and had to be a new and current character.

These activities led me to a love of what became cosplay. One year, I developed a dance routine in which I choreographed, dressed, and performed a solo piece as Captain Jack Sparrow. As each “Pirates” movie was released, I created a new costumes mimicking the Sparrow character. I would attend the openings and often be asked to pose as Jack Sparrow with other attendees.

My first exposure to a Cosplay Convention was DragonCon in 2012; I played Amy Pond from Dr. WHO.

At that time, Cosplay was a hobby until 2020, when I created my social media presence.

I began doing Cosplay skits and photo shoots, which launched my brands:

Chrissie_Forlie and Magic Media Presents.

My cosplays have been featured in various cosplay magazines.

Modeling:

As a teenager, I was a dancer in a variety of styles, including en pointe ballet. During this time, I was approached by people involved in the fashion industry. At that time, a “tan/blond” look was all the rage; I was expected to tan myself and change my physique in a way that made me uncomfortable.

Consequently, I went back to concentrating on dance. I advanced through various styles and settled into competitive Ballroom Dance. I then became a dance/choreography instructor.

After suffering a foot injury, I was asked by a friend to join her at a modeling shoot. That shoot reignited my modeling passion, allowing me to begin networking and building my foundation in the industry.

I modeled for two New York Fashion Week seasons. I won the Plus Model of the Year award at NYFW and was nominated for Emerging Plus Model and Content Creator of the Year at the Full-Figured Industry Awards in NYC.

I also flew to Los Angeles to model for Pinup Girl Clothing Catalog.

My modeling has provided me with opportunities as a Brand Ambassador for brands such as Hot Topic, Caribou Coffee, Amazon, and Pinup Girl Clothing and exposure through social media.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my modeling opportunities cost significant money for air travel, lodging, etc.

There are fewer Plus Model opportunities than other body types in some geographic areas.

Finding agencies that offer legitimate opportunities.

Finding time to pursue my interests while juggling a work schedule.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My specialties include print and runway modeling, model coaching, cosplay character creation and modeling, makeup artistry, and content creation for marketing products and services.

I am proud of the opportunities to mentor aspiring models and cosplayers. Through this work I strive to be an inspiration to those interested in pursuing their dreams and in need of a roadmap to follow.
